Fine gritty overdrive?

I'm looking for a pedal that will give me a really tight, 'schazzy' overdrive kinda like you often hear in budget SS amps. I played a little Austin amp that had this sound to it. I do have a Rocktron Austin Gold, and it's a little too loose and mushy. I want an edgy superfine grit, somewhat like a solidstate cross between a MXR Distortion+ and a Matchless. My Boogie Quad is plenty loose, so smooth creamyness/mush is not necessary. Am I describing a good Tubescreamer? Something else?

Re: Fine gritty overdrive?

Try out a fuzz for some tight 'schazzy' overdrive . . . maybe a RAT, one of the Boss Fuzz pedals, or even try a Blues Driver (when they're unmodded they have a strange sort of high pitched schkzzz sound to them)

Re: Fine gritty overdrive?

I've got a pedal I'm actually selling  that sounds maybe like what you're looking for.

It called the Pharoah Amps Sweet Cheetah http://www.pharaohamps.com/cheetah.htm

They call it a high gain distortion pedal, but it gets a nice gritty OD to it when the knobs aren't dimed.

Personally, I wouldn't have bought it by the clips on the site, but it's better than the site implies. I got it in a trade & it's actually pretty damned good. I just have plenty of good ODs, so...

Anyway, check it out.....if it's something you might wanna try we could work something out. I'm cool with a trial period too

Re: Fine gritty overdrive?

Wow, that's not quite what I was thinking, but it sure sounds cool! Maybe if the price is right......

I'm not really thinking a distortion or fuzz- I want something that turns chords into a wash of hazy harmonics, not a juicy pile of cow dung. Something that has a really smooth transition from clean, ie. no coarse breakup. Something like a TS with a little more nasty.

Re: Fine gritty overdrive?

See, that's the funny thing about this pedal. They build it up & put up clips of a distortion box & maybe it's my single coils or my amps, but it sounds like maybe a modded TS to me. It can get a nice fat full OD or tweak it slightly dirtier for a grittier but still full OD.

As a distortion box, I don't carefor it, but I'm not into distortion anyway :dunno:

If it sounds like something you'd like to try, I have no problem letting ya' try it out. If ya' like it, send me some money....if not, send it back:bigthumb:

I'll PM ya' so we don't bore the good folks of these here parts :D
