Finest guitar ive ever owned ...

Craftsmanship & tone for starters.

So, how exactly was it "crafted" that makes it awesome?

And what is the tone? What pickups are in it, and what was the signal chain you played it through that brought the tone?

we all have our favorites, at least i do. putting that into words is hard. his signal chain is pretty well documented here for anyone that pays attention

Even if it's not perfect, when you bond a guitar, it's kinda hard to separate the emotional aspect from the objectivity of what makes a guitar good.

That being said... it's a freaking Gibson CS. Even if they have a track record of not being perfect and whatnot, they don't charge what they charge for nothing. I mean, people keep buying them. They must be doing something well.

Yeah but I get what Aceman is saying. I own a CS Les Paul myself and it is at the end of the day a Les Paul. I think what Ace is asking is what makes this guitar so special outside of emotional attachment, which is fine.

I feel that way about my 7 string Les Paul Classic, at least for electrics. It's got very tight, solid construction, it can take a great setup, frets and neck profile feel awesome (my favorite neck), no dead spots or buzzing or any other problems. When I take stuff off to work on it I'm impressed by the hardness of the wood compared to some cheaper guitars which are already losing the ability to hold those little screws for the cavity covers, and everything fits precisely. And it sounds great going into the Pittbull.

It's a lot of things that add up to an easy, fun playing experience with the ergonomics I prefer. It lets me focus on music instead of constantly getting used to something and chasing tone or setup compromises. It just all falls into place; everything is where I want it to be. I think it looks cool, too, all black with cream plastic and chrome hardware. It'll fit in anywhere I want to be, not that I really care about that. I'm mostly an Explorer player because that was my main and sometimes only guitar for twenty some years, but there's no question the LP outclasses it while having pretty much everything I want in a guitar from years of playing Gibsons.

My Taylor 815ce (jumbo maple backed steel string acoustic) has got to be the "finest" guitar I own, but I rarely play acoustic anymore, and it's in its own category in my head.

My KOA 1993 Carvin Dc 127. You couldn't build this guitar today. First this thin shreadder neck profile without the carbon rods is NLA, and secondly you can no longer build a solid KOA Neck through because the old growth woods are NLA.. This is not the prettiest guitar I own but has a very special vibe and some magic about it and I will own this one as long as I am able to play.. Picking it up and playing it is like shaking hands with an old friend. That plus it is the single most versatile on the fly guitar I have ever owned as I can cover anything passably from killer clean country solos to high octane metal on the fly with the Alt 8 and Sentient plus split switches. It's a combo on paper that shouldn't work like it does but in practice does. From an unmiced thrown together intimate Christmas thing a few years ago running my Boogie Subway and running only a Boss CE3 up front and a little verb in the loop on some clean country check out the solo at the 2 min mark here. https://youtu.be/MmQ5lOI1Fs8?si=To-zWCZ6zCEJohDu
Same event a little rock on the crunch channel, only a little delay and verb in the loop. https://youtu.be/hen1EGlQP0k?si=GDBEUd7bfNkyb5k1
