Finished my Ranger Clone

After about 5 hours of wiring my buildyourownclone.com Ranger Clone is finished. The only thing I haven't done is add the chicken head knob, because I can't find a small enough flat head screwdriver.

This is my quick review: the tone is great it adds some nice bite to the high stings and the low strings sound a little less muddy.

I'm having a few problems though. When I turn the pot I get static sound from my amp. The other problen is if you turn the pot while it's in bypass and then turn it on it make a loud popping noise.

Does it sound like bad parts or bad wiring?

It could be either a wiring mistake, or a bad design. Both of those problems would be caused if you had some DC riding on the audio signal. Perhaps they left out a bypass cap, or something isn't wired correctly.

Trouble is, it would be hard to troubleshoot without seeing the schematic and the board. Just double-check everything, especially the orientation of caps.

If one of the caps was rated for to high of a voltage could that cause these problems?

I have built the same clone, and have experienced none of those problems, but some different ones of my own. my biggest problem was that the battery didnt fit in mine where ti said to put it. i made a thread a few weeks ago about it, you can read it there if you'd like.

I don't think so. The caps used in guitar tone circuits are often 600 to 1000 volt units. Guitars generate, maybe a volt.

A "missing" cap, or a bad cap would, however.
