Stratoblaster Tone Meister
Pretty cool combination in the Neck of my Love Rock/Les Paul....I just switched the slug coil out and used the Jazz's instead and went back to A5..Great tone and added harmonics!
I know now that the A5 creates a much stronger field of tone in a pickup even compared to the stock 59N with an A4 magnet...
I've got some of that woofiness back in the neck and I've had to adjust the pickup back down to about 3.5/32" from the 3/32" I had with the 59N A4 setup...4/32" each side was too much and I found the sweet spots between 3 and 3.5/32" with this pickup.
For some reason my Jazz/59N Hybrid now reads like 8.5K and I think it was only about 7.8k as a stock 59N pickup before the swap? Weird? :smack:
ANyway.....Great note articulation, still reminds me more of the stock 59N A5 but it has a "little" less in the lows, nice crisp and clean top end,I'd say the mids are about the same and a bit more overall buzz from mismatching the coils....Again....The thing I do hear right away with these Hybrids is more harmonic content and the tone is tight and very clear.....Almost piano-like when you play clean through this Jazz/59N combination....With gain you get a clear, crunchy, note articulate tone with extra harmonics and singing sustain on leads...(Very cool indeed)...
Is this pickup better than the 59N A4? I don't think it is and it's different, but I do like the added harmonics, and I guess I could do without the extra buzz in my signal...The A5 magnet is very prominent in my guitar's neck position! I was able to get a perfect balance in volume however between the bridge 59B/C A2
though....The A2 magnet can't compete in output with the A5 magnet in the neck.
If this Hybrid was reading below 8K I'd feel alot better about it being in the neck spot....
Jumpmarine's other half of my 59N Jazz/59 Hybrid reads only 7.8K so WTF with the dc resistance on mine(After it's all cooled down of 8.5K)....?????:smack:
If this neck Hybrid doesn't do it for me as I test it,I no longer have a stock 7.8K 59N to put back in the neck of this guitar! :gurmpy:
I'll spend some time with it.....It has great tone and harmonics and it's only negatives are the slight increase in buzz as mentioned and it's slightly heavy in the lows, but more tolerable and usable since it doesn't get muddy, but stays clean, clear, and tight.....:beerchug:
I could also try the A4 magnet in this scenario and maybe it would be even better or perfect? Bachtorock sought of leaned me to the A4 from the get go!
