First Day

Re: First Day

Was this recorded live? (Sounds like it might be)
It has a Kansas-ish feel. (That is a Good Thing)

It's a bit on the murky side ... can use a healthy dose of cleaning up. And the vox are WAY too loud and driving the mix. Bass playing is a bit ... off.

:thanks:, T.O.

It was a "live in the 'studio'" (read: rehearsal room) recording.

Bassist has been playing for <1 year.

Re: First Day

The kick drum sounds pretty damn good. The vibe of the song is very southern rock, which is cool for a religious band, but I'm not sure if it goes together. But, does it matter? The lyrics are pretty bad, in all honesty. I listen to some religious rock bands, but they hardly mention religion. (TFK, Sanctus Real) Mix could use some tweaking, like I think all the instruments are fighting over the low-mid region. Could EQ out some of them to leave room for the others.

What interface did you use to record this?

Re: First Day

I'm not T.O., but since you ignored me after complaining about being ignored, I'll tell you what... You need to cut some frequencies from the guitars and vocals, and add some other frequencies back to cut down the "muddiness" of the mix. Those frequencies that you will want to cut from the guitars and vocals will be in the range of about 100 Hz to roughly 700 Hz (low shelf EQ or wide Q). Add in some 10k to 18k (whatever sounds best) to the vocals and 3k to 8k for the guitars.
