First demo track with TONEGRINDERS

TwilightOdyssey

Darkness on the edge of Tone
I tracked the guitar parts for a song some of you may have heard in other iterations, Exhortation Of The Heights. ToneGrinder-loaded Splawn Quick Rod goodness! :)

EDIT: SEE POST BELOW FOR TWEAKED MIX

I love that lil trill, very cool touch! Good sleazy stuff! It crosses Iommi and a touch of Lynch to my ears a lil bit. I love the cymbal sounds as well, very nice and open. It could be my puter, but I would love more bass in the mix, that line is really nice...

Props to the drums at about the 5 mn mark! Sweet stuff!

Thanks so much, kev!

From a groove master such as yourself, that is high praise indeed! :)
This is only my first stab at the mix, so ... lots of work to go!

Re: First demo track with TONEGRINDERS

:headbang: Reminds me of Sabbath in some ways. You're missing the low end of the bass (and guitar I think?) to my ears which should help support the low end of the guitar and make it "more huger" still.

Re: First demo track with TONEGRINDERS

What are you using to record the guitar?
Guitar was tracked in a very simple fashion: mic'd iso cab.

A bit more detail:

Gtr > Tommy Bolin fuzz > Splawn Quick Rod > Randall iso cab (Scumback M75) > mic preamp > Tascam 1641 interface.

Mic used for rhythm and lead guitar was an SM57.

Rhythm guitar was tracked using an SSL XLogic preamp. Lead guitar was tracked with A Chandler Germanium preamp.

Thanks! :)

The reason that the absolute bottom extension seems to be missing is because the bass guitar is panned off from center. When it's panned to the middle, there is a lot more perceived low end. It's there now, just harder to notice when the bass guitar is panned. This is a stylistic decision I made. I am, however, already working on a way to make the bass equally more huger!! :)

At the end of the day, it's a demo track and I'm still in the experimental phase.

Thanks for your input, however -- it's definitely appreciated!! :)

Re: First demo track with TONEGRINDERS

Bad stylistic decision. LOL Pan it up the middle like the rest of the world does now.
Anyhow, I think it's the iso cab that's not working well for the guitar tone. I had one of those (different make) and I know the sound.

Re: First demo track with TONEGRINDERS

This is what I would do now that I listen again. I would copy the guitar to another track pan the main one left about 10:00 and the copy right at 3:00 and with less volume and a room reverb, and pan the bass up the middle. My 2 cents. Cool tune man.

Thanks for the additional feeback -- it's appreciated! :)

Very old Sabbath! :bigthumb:

Guitar sounds good.

Agreed the bass or bass end could come up.
