First experience with locking tuners

Jesus, why aren't these the norm for all guitars. They make life so much easier. Hell, the only concern I have is that I might snap a string while stretching (let me know if that's an actual issue)
Damn. I should do this to all my future guitars

Re: First experience with locking tuners

I've got em on my #1. String changes so much faster and easier. Love em!

Re: First experience with locking tuners

Locking tuners is the first thing I do to all my guitars. Why keep winding, when you can lock? :)

Re: First experience with locking tuners

They should make them standard, so idiots don't loop the ends of the strings in various ways thinking they're going to stay in tune.

Re: First experience with locking tuners

I'd say that, without the locking nuts, it stays in tune no better than a properly wound normal tuner, but it does make string changes a cinch.

Re: First experience with locking tuners

I tried some on my strat first
Then another strat
Then my hardtail Ibby
Now I bought some for my acoustics

Not that they have tuning issues
Just because it makes string changes so much easier

I wish I could find them for bass

Locking tuners are one of the things people suggest (wrongly) for keeping guitars in tune. Same thing about winding the strings under themselves or looping the ends or whatever. Pet peeve of mine when I buy a used guitar and remove the strings. The idiot that owned it before me made the strings hard to change. At times I have to get out a pick (tool, not guitar) and needle nose pliers.

Man, I've been wanting to get a decent set of locking tuners for years for a certain neck of mine. Do you know what size tuner peg ream is required for those Gotoh ones you've got there? I currently have regular Gotoh (11/32") SG38 Tuners. The location of the screws look very similar to the SG38's I am using which has been something I have been looking for if I was to go to a locking tuner set. I didn't even know Gotoh made locking tuners.

Re: First experience with locking tuners

I am aiming to get 2 sets of these for my projects. only $30 more than the regular gotoh pegs.

Not like winding, especially with a $1 string winder, takes a lot of time. I can't justify the cost of locking tuners to save a few seconds. Locking tuners 'aren't the norm' because they're really not needed by most players. If guitar makers saw there was any kind of demand for them, most new guitars would come equipped from the factory with them.

i use these on my strat

these might be chinese copys but they are still excellent quality and are cheaper that the stock jackson tuners..IMO these are superior to the jackson tuners.. YES i know im comparing a locking to a non-locking.. but the chinese copys just have a more positive feel when you turn them

i guess im in the minority as I believe they do help in tuning stability.. however minor that or might not be. I can careless about how long a string change takes. Hell, I dont even own a winder.. lol..only takes ~20 to 30 minutes to change and stretch strings anyway.. considering that I dont change my strings all that often.. the time it takes is not that long

Re: First experience with locking tuners

If you think mere locking tuners are the bee's knees, stay away from planet waves lockers.

They lock AND cut the strings!!

The ultimate in awesomeness.

I would agree, since these aren't exacly cheap (but they're not expensive), but the stock tuners on my guitars were starting to act up, and since I have a Floyd Rose, every second less counts. I don't even have to stretch as much, either.

However, I'm sure you can find SG381 MG-Ts which are the locking version of the Sg38/381

Yeah. It's not necessary or a must. And it costs money. But, it's still the first thing I change on a guitar. They should be stock on guitars. It's probably the one thing that every guitarist can appreciate. IMO it's way smarter than Gibson's G-Force for instance. :)
