Re: First finished track

Thanks! What you recommend changing in the mix?
Lots lol. All of the tracks could benefit from judicious reverb, EQ, and compression to tie everything together, and volume rides.

If you have the individual tracks, and they are aligned, I would be happy to do a simple "blocking" mix for you if.

Re: First finished track

What do you mean by aligned?

I can send you the WAV files.
Aligned = if I import 'em into Cubase they will line up without my having to move them into time.

WAVs are fine; send 'em over and we'll see what there is to see! :)

Re: First finished track

Thanks man. I'm about to email them now. Sorry it took so long, been driving all day.

Re: First finished track

Feels good, man. Lots of energy. The mix is very, very raw. The drums and bass definitely need to come up and the vocals need to get seated into the mix. Like TwilightOdyssey said, EQ and compression are going to be your friend. Reverb will serve the vocals and guitar parts well. The song itself is really good, and the performance is good, which is 75% of what makes a track interesting. Keep it up!

Okay, nice!

If that doesn't work, my MSN ID is rocktropolis [at] optonline [dot] net. You can just hit me up via IM and send the files direct to me that way if you want ...

Re: First finished track

Thanks, man! We kind of identify with alt punk. We've got one song that I think is fairly punk rock that I'll be posting in a few days.

Twightlight, I'll be IMing you to see if the files sent.

Re: First finished track

Right up my alley, love the tune.

That is a righteous thing TO is doing

Re: First finished track

Thanks for all the love, guys. Hopefully we'll get our whole catalog up in the next week. Just put two new links up on the OP.

First finished track

The third one was a self recording, as well. The professional version is on that soundcloud along with the other track that was done on the same day. 01 Cover Your Head and
02 Help Me Change Your Mind.

Re: First finished track

Okay, here is a really rough blocking mix. There would have to be a lot of rides to get the mix sounding even. I did it the cheap way -- with compression!

Since there were so few tracks I was able to use a Pultec on the guitars, vox, and bass, which REALLY helped punch it up a bit. I also used UA compression on the vox and bass.

There are still a lot of individual bass notes and drum hits that are lost. If I were mixing this 'for real', I would strip down each track and apply rides where necessary. I would also probably stack more EQs on each track. Right now I am using 2 EQs on each track, but would probably use more to really dial in each instrument and then apply certain EQs only on the verse, chorus, etc. This would require multing all the tracks which I wasn't going to get into.

Anyway, I hope I didn't break your song! :)
