First Guitar?

Re: First Guitar?

In 1984, after saving up lawn mowing and babysitting $, I got a plywood body, bolt on neck Hondo LP copy. (I had a no-name 3/4 size acoustic with the usual 1/2" action before that, it literally couldn't be tuned) Candy apple red body (front and back) and neck. So when I saw my first "real" LP, I didn't understand why the back was a different color than the top...

Re: First Guitar?

A Futurama 3..!!! (I wonder if Matt Groening had one too..?!)

I won it playing cards at high school, with marked cards I may add..!! I did come clean about this but my Buddy said he didn't care, it had been up in his attic for years an no one wanted it..

It was in bad shape but I got it playing..

I threw it in a dumpster about 20 years ago and have only recently found out it was from 1961, and Futurama's were played by most British early rock stars such as George Harrison and Jimmy Page before we got the Fender / Gibson imports..

Drat, drat and double drat..!! :guilty:

Re: First Guitar?

My first guitar was one of those kay les paul copies, a catalogue guitar from the late 70s-early 80s. Came complete with egg slicer action and single coil pickups in a humbucker sized cover.
The guy who had it before me took it apart and sprayed it with blue car paint, getting newspaper stuck to the back of it in the process and couldnt be bothered with it any more ( not even putting it back together ).
When it was given to me it was a bag full of parts!

Re: First Guitar?

Ibanez x series Destroyer all black cream colored binding triple humbuckers still have it still play it. Needs a real good fret redo but I'm not gonna do it. Love it '

Re: First Guitar?

My first guitar was given to me by a family friend. It was a cataloge brand guitar called CMI. It was a POS.

A Few months later, I started taking lessons, My father found me a really beat up 1974 Les Paul Deluxe goldtop for $350. It already had a SD Mini Humbucker in the bridge :) I later put in SD Hot P90s in it and it sounded amazing. The frets were just about toast so i ended up selling it 10 years later for $1000.

Re: First Guitar?

Mine was/ is a Stella acoustic that I got second-hand in England in about 1966. I still have it. Almost impossible to play, but it has the genuine old acoustic blues sound. Hard to believe I've now owned it for fifty years.

Re: First Guitar?

A black '84 Ibanez DT250 Destroyer which my folks bought me new ...loved that axe :bigthumb: ..it's still around and I recently refurb'd it ...but the neck's seen better days :(

Re: First Guitar?

My dad would let me play his Strat until for my 12th birthday he paid for 2/3rds of this guitar. I paid for the rest with the little bit that I had. I still play it regularly and it brings back so many fond memories playing with my dad.
