Yeah, I can hear you guys letting out a collective chorus of yawns, but it's kind of a big deal for me. I felt it a right-of-passage, and obligation of finally do my own, so there you go.
I used a Gibson Bursbucker Pro, and put an Alnico 3 magnet in it, wax potted, and gave it a different cover. Came out pretty nice and no feedback or microphonics. It went in the neck of a Les Paul.
While I'm preaching to the choir, I used about 50/50 beeswax/canning, and might offer a tip of putting tape over the holes of the cover, and after potting pup and cover, left a little wax in the cover which I mashed out with clamps while removing the tape. Gave a bomb-proof seal. A little grease, or oil ( butter would probably work ) around predicted trouble areas helps when removing wax later, if you can't get to it liquid. Judicious application of flame from a match ditto ( careful ! ). This is a variation on a demo on the internet which must have come from a forum brother.
I like having a different sound, and appreciate everything I've learned here, and everyone's encouragement over the years.
