Hello everyone. Just joined the forum. Thanks in advance for any replies.
-I'm working on my first Partscaster. It's MIM 2000 Telecaster. Many moons ago I hired a guy to router out a spot to put in some humbuckers I bought in high school. I had bought some Seymour Duncan humbuckers thinking I would build my own guitar. I had no idea about anything then and long story short I never made one. I kept all the parts. Apparently I bought a Pearly Gates bridge position and a 59 bridge position. The setup is a 5 way switch, SHH. With the PG in the center and 59 at neck. Do I need to worry about phase? Is it ok for a bridge pickups to be at neck? The two pots are both 250K. Do I need to increase to 500K? Any other ideas? I even considered going SHS with putting the lipstick cool back in. Anyone ever seen or done this? Results? Thanks again.

Acording to this list https://forum.seymourduncan.com/sho...Duncan-mV-Data&highlight=pickup+output+values the 59 is more powerfull than the PG so I would suggest the PG in the neck.

Not between the Duncans, you have not mentioned what the other pup is, but correctly wired there will be no problem.

Yes. Dimebag used the 59 bridge in the neck position.

If all pups are humbuckers it is recomended but you dont "need" to. The dilema is how the single in the bridge position works with a 500k, it may sound too bright, yet the PG may sound too dull with a 250k. Have a look at Toneshapers. I used one for my HSS. I'm sure their customer support could give you some advice. Not cheap though but just an option to look at.

The phase relationship issue, if there is any, would be between the Telecaster-style bridge/Treble pickup and the other two.

If the humbuckers have four conductor + shield output cable, it will be easy to correct any phase problems.

I am of the opinion that, on T type guitars, less is often more. You may end up with a more usable musical instrument if you have an SH pickup combination and some clever switch wiring.

A250k pots.

My other Pups are the original single coil that came with the Tele. Thanks for your detailed reply! Very good info and plenty to think about and consider. On pots.. My impression was that the higher K cuts out more high end and fattens sound. Is this incorrect?

I browsed through Tone shaper site a bit. I'm not clear on what the product does. Can you elaborate? What has been your experience with this product?

I've also considered an Alembic Stratoblaster for my setup with my strat and or Tele. Any thoughts here. I hate loosing my Pups character when I turn volume down. Isn't there a pedal for chain that basically does same thing? Thanks again for all the advice. Keep it coming. I'm learning a lot.

Fender pickups are usually out of phase with Seymour, so you would have to wire the Duncans upside down; black and bare to ground, green to switch (red and white to each other). There is a way to check the phase with a multimeter, I'll search youtube to find one.

The higher the K on a pot the MORE highs get thru, thus they are brighter. The lower the number the thicker the tone. That's why a single (which has a lot of high end) uses a 250k, with a 500k it may sound too shrill. Humbucker use 500k by default, although many years ago Gibson used 300k on some models.

There is more than one way to skin a cat, to solve the pot issue you can use different volume pots. One for bridge and the other for the humbuckers. You can use resistors as in the link I posted. Blueman 355 uses a 500k pot on the volume and a 250 on the tone. Or you can use your ears, start with the 250 you have and hear how the humbuckers react, if they sound dull switch to a 500.

I watched the YouTube video about phase. When wiring. The 5 way switch is where any wire switching happens. Correct?

Ok everyone, here is the latest. I've decided to go SHS in my Telecaster. I hope it will help me retain that Tele sound, but give me the option with some thicker punch in the middle when needed. I will use my other humbucker in my MIM Strat. It's is already set up as HSS. So here are my Q's
1. Would I be better of going SSH on my Tele instead of SHS? Anyone have experience with either set up?
2. Having a hard time finding pick guards a for some of these formations.
3. Both guitars will have a five way switch. Anything I should know or keep in mind for wiring?
