First Real Gig Please Advice

Re: First Real Gig Please Advice

Remember to soak everything in warm water overnight! Otherwise it will all bind up once it gets hot on stage! This includes guitars, pedals, amps, everything! If you don't have a swimming pool with warm water, you'll each have to use your own bath tubs. Since bassdrums and guitar cabinets are really big and won't soak, you can just run the shower on them for about 10 mintes, but you have to use HOT water and make sure you get the speakers really good. Very important step.

Also make sure you change all your strings (bass too) and drum heads RIGHT BEFORE THE SHOW to make sure they're totally fresh and less likely to break.

Also when you're tuning between songs, it's OK to use a tuner but make sure you can still hear your guitar through the amp. When the crowd and soundman hear you tuning they know to wait a minute and won't think you're just messing around up there.

Whoever is running sound, make sure to constantly let them know what needs fixed or changed while you play, loudly over the microphone. They need the constant feedback from you to know how to mix things.

Hope this helps!!!!!

LMAO ... you forgot to mention to take long breaks between songs to tell the audience your life story WHILE the guitars are being tuned.

man Adam you want our first ever gig to be our last ever lol plus soak my mustang even after i'm dead i'm going to haunt my axe

Re: First Real Gig Please Advice

sadly, no ... unless you are playing a room so small that you dont really even need to mic anything but the voice

150 W is not enough to mic drums - period ... and with no subs, you wont even be able to hear the bass freqs, so don't bother trying ... sorry, just the truth

the rhythm gtr directly into the PA is going to sound like ass unless he has some kind of preamp/processor - a PA needs a line level signal and a gtr only puts out a tiny signal

the bass DI will sound pretty good, but only if the PA speakers are at least 15" ... dont put anything in the monitor except the voice

how big a place are you playing? how many people expected to show up? any chance you could borrow a bass amp and r.gtr amp for the gig?

good luck - have fun
t4d

ps - dont let the lead gtr turn up so loud thta he drowns out the vocals, cus hen they'll turn the PA up and it will distort and sound terrible ... and tell the drummer that if he plays too loud, the whole thing is just gonna suck ... go for balance

pps - lesson learned - dont wait til you are on your way to a gig to figure out he PA needs / solution :D

guys can you tell me what is a bass DI ???

Bass Direct Input.

Look at something like a SansAmp. It's essentially a low powered signal which can be rigged up to the PA.
