First song in a long time

80's_Thrash_Metal

Slightly_Glazed_Believer
I came up with this riff last week.
My other guitarist really liked it so...
Saturday I laid the guitar (1 take) and drums down.
I think this is exactly what a T75 sounds like.
Sunday I did the bass and vocals.... 2 takes for bass and 8 takes for vocals....

It's the first time trying to record vocals since my throat surgery...

Tonight I did 4 more takes ending in disaster mostly.... It's like trying to sing with someone else's throat.... Feels weird and can't quite get anything close to what it was before(which truthfully wasn't that great to begin with lol)
Anyhow... I just got back inside from the garage with my 13th vocal take. I can live with it.... It's not where I want it to be, but it may be good enough for this metal song.

Thanks for listening.

Those opening mutes are d@mn juicy. I swapped out all my T75s. You got a lot better sound out of them than I ever did. Sorry to hear about the throat surgery.

Thanks !

Lots of people who record either love the 75s or hate them. They have a certain honkyness to them sometimes. I pulled all mine out at one time, but I went back to at least keeping 2 of them.

That sounds great! What mics and preamps did you use?

thank you!
I used a Gibson BFG with a Duncan Distortion tuned Drop B into a Marshall JVM and an sm57 in front of a T75 into
a little focusrite Scarlett into my phone with an app called Dolby On. (Droid)

I had the opposite. They tended to sound thin and washed out in the mids. Didn’t record well for my liking.

Listened in car on the way home - very catchy. Dig the chorus

Thanks! And it's funny you should say that,
When I sat down to write something , the chorus is what was in my head. It is really the foundation of the song to me..
I had to work out and write the rest of it to fit around it.

As usual, your guitar tone is ....

Thanks guys!

sometimes it's easy to impress people who don't know anything about music, so if it sounds good to you guys, that is powerful to me. Appreciate all the kind words, I truly do.

How does the phone thing work - you mix it and do drums and everything in your phone? Sounds handy if so

You can have a full DAW on your smartphone these days. GarageBand might sound pretty stupid but you can download a bunch of amp packs that sound pretty good for guitar and bass, sequence and dial in drums that sound good if you know what your doing.

All you need is a dongle that lets you plug your guitar in. My partner sequences all her songs with it and I finish them up on my dedicated studio rig.

I don’t imagine it’s going to let me record 20 simultaneous drum tracks at a high sample rate, bring them home and export them without issues any time soon (would probably take an amount of cpu a phone doesn’t have,) but it would save a lot of effort if they come out with something like that some day.

I use Reaper for a DAW and it's on my PC in the house.

I usually start with a drum track , put it on a USB stick and take it out to the garage, and stick it in a laptop with headphones.

From there I set mics and levels and while I'm listening to drums in my headphones I add all the tracks straight into my phone using a little focusrite Scarlett and the Dolby On app on my phone. The app has a lot of features, but I usually turn the Dolby stuff off and use the track raw.

Then I bring my phone inside, download all the tracks into Reaper and mix, edit, repeat if needed.

It's pretty streamlined, works well for me and it's pretty easy.
