First tube amp

Re: First tube amp

I'll take this opportunity to recommend you at least give the Blackstar a shot. It sounds like it might be really close to what you need. At the worst, you'll be able to come back and tell me what you liked or didn't like about it. I think for the price, it really can't be beat.
:banghead: meant to add that to the list, I didn't disregard it, just forgot about it, Imma check it out!

Re: First tube amp

Alright, update time.

I just got back from the store about 10 minutes ago. Unfortunately, I have no Blackstar or Laney dealers within a large radius of me, and the particular shop I went to had very few Blackhearts. But thats ok.
I walk in, first thing I check out is the Tiny Terror. This thing is awesome. Simple and straightforward, but awesome.
I then went over to the Vox Night Train, and this thing blew my f***ing balls off. I thought this amp fit my style a little more than the Tiny Terror, even though its a great amp. I thought my little solid state Crate was pretty decent, this makes it look like a baby's toy.
Thanks a ton for recommending it, I think I might be going with this one. When they get another Classic 30 in I'm gonna A/B em, but this amp is amazing. Now if I can only wait another two months...I got some bad gas.

Re: First tube amp

i use a stock mid-late 90's C30 combo a hell of a lot... it is my go to amp for most of what i do these days... you can carry it in one hand and it can get you that ACDC grind in a heart beat... i love it for it's portability, it's the right volume for most bar band uses, and works well thru an extention cab if you need more volume.... a sealed back extention cab adds some Low End to the tone, and that is a real bonus!!!

i set mine up on a tilt back Genesis Amp Stand like a monitor when i was gigging... that way i never had a hard time hearing myself and i never came off the stage too loud for the soundmen to get a good mix from the pa's...

also the C30 is a great Clean sound as well... i use mine for using various distortion pedals a lot, plus i also use the Piezo bridge PU in my Godin in front of it a lot too... The Piezo played that way is not an acoustic sound really but one of the nicest sounding cleans i've come across

lots of guys hate the stock speaker in these amps but mine is just 100% the way i bought it... still has the original tubes even... i love the hot British sounds it gives off on the drive channel! I find enough Who sounds in it for me to get by that is for sure

Re: First tube amp

One more question.
Will the Night Train be able keep up with a loud rhythm section or small gig? At this point, it is only necessary for me for it to be able to keep up with a rhythm section, but I am wondering about gigs in the future.
