Ive had my Ibanez Artwood for about 4 years now and its great minus the Fishman Matrix not working for a while...Now I went to drums in my band so I played it here and there in my room and when I decided to try and plug it in the amp...it didnt work so I then I changed the battery..that didnt work

Played with the knobs , changed amps and even cables...nothing

So After trying t osee who I can talk to get it fixed..techs wont touch it because Fishman service centers are said to take care of it and the stupid Guitar Center techs who do repairs on fridays wouldnt even look at it..

So I called Fishman and told me to check the guitar out before I sent it in..well out of boredom I decided to take the screws out from the input jack at the bottom of the guitar out...and wanted to see if it was correctly attached..

as you see here

I took a closer look and if you see here..one wire is not soldered on.

This here is the eq thats on my acoustic and the light turns on when i touch the loose wire with the connector thats not soldered..

now I plugged a cable in the input jack..and strummed a string and on my boss pedal the note was read..so im guessing the whole time this was my problem..

the solder came undone..now ive never soldered anything in my life before so i may ask my friend..is there anything i should look for or use in terms of materials??

any of you think this iswhy my guitar never came out on a p.a. or amp??

or should i take this to a fishman repair center and get charged for what ends out to be a loose cable which can be fixed with soldering?

any advice?

Uh, well, those solder joints have one of two purposes - they either complete the circuit that turns the battery on, or they complete the circuit that allows output to be sent to your amp. In other words, they make it work. I don't know how a fishman prefix operates, but I imagine it's just a piezo with a preamp and EQ. In any case, an output jack is just an output jack

In either case, that shouldn't void any warranties, if you're worried about that. Buy a soldering iron, electronics solder, and find some scraps of wire to practice on. This job should take about 10 seconds. Just remember not to solder over the guitar unprotected, the hot solder can mess the finish up.

Rip it all out and get a Fishman Rare Earth 'bucker. :)

J/K I think that what that wire is the one that powers up your preamp. Soldering it to where it's supposed to ge should solve your problem.

Now to make that Matrix sound good....

I also prefer acoustic humbuckers, but they really lack a lot of what piezos do really well.

hey for the price..it sounds great... id get a new acoustic piezo or eq but..

the guitar is 4 years old and im not changing anything on it hahha..

I can only imagine what fishman puts on guitars now!

Re: fishman matrix acoustic repair?? come see

thanks..are the fishman matrix's that bad?? haha it seems you guys are implying theyre not too shabby.

my guitarist is going to resolder the loose wire for me and im going to plug my guitar into my p.a. to see how it sounds against my friends new martin

im sure the martin will win of course but i want to see how good hte acoustic sounds ... its been so long since ive even heard it from an amp or p.a.
