Fishman's new pickups

Re: Fishman's new pickups

Great article. Every Fishman product I have is excellent. I want to see where this goes.

Re: Fishman's new pickups

as a guy who loves pickups, these look pretty cool. as a guitarist i cannot trust any technology created after 1969.

Re: Fishman's new pickups

I'm absolutely a fan of this. Lace Alumitones were pretty wild but seem pretty unstable and kind of tricky to work with, but this is essentially analog emulation of mojo.
They look pretty good too.

Re: Fishman's new pickups

In paper looks like a great concept... we'll need to see if it delivers.

But even if it does, they're directed to frigging guitar players, the most reluctant-to-change demographic that ever existed.

Even if they sound great, they'll be adopted only by a very small minority. The rest will keep arguing to death that they will never be "like the real thing".

The "pearls to swines" parabol comes to mind... wonder why?

HTH,

Re: Fishman's new pickups

I live right down the road from Fishman and have a couple of friends that work there. I already reached out to them to check these out. I will post my findings when I get my hands on these puppies.

Re: Fishman's new pickups

Since Frank Falbo had a hand in voicing them, I'm betting they will be worth checking out. Franks stuff with SD was some of the more innovative things in quite a while.

Re: Fishman's new pickups

I am just happy to see some innovation in the pickup world. I love PAFs and stuff like that but it gets kind of old seeing every maker try to reproduce the tones of the past instead of trying to innovate and make something better. I thought the silver zephyrs were a good step forwards, and I really like the thinking on these pickups.

Re: Fishman's new pickups

Sounds very interesting, but how on earth are we going to cope with only a couple of variants of a 'classic paf'!

Wouldn't it be cool if the preamp could be adjusted somehow so you have multiple patches for different pickups, but then you get something like a line 6 variax (not saying that is necessarily a bad thing).

Re: Fishman's new pickups

This is really exciting. Not just for these, but for what this opens the door for. It's not long before we have pickup modeling or profiling like we have with amps. So cool.

Re: Fishman's new pickups

I read it, but I don't understand it? They don't have much for illustrations either.

Re: Fishman's new pickups

I agree: I think they sound a little clanky, but I'd be willing to give 'em a shot.
