Five-Two 5/2 for Tele opinions?

The mixing of magnet types sounds like a great idea, but it seems that this pickup gets overlooked quite a bit. Does anyone have any experience with it? I'm trying to decide on pickups for a new homemade swamp ash body/maple neck Tele. I'm shooting for a rock & roll/country sound....early Bruce Springsteen, Clarence White, James Burton, Keith Richards (I know that's pretty diverse, but that's the tonal neighborhood I want to be in). Importantly, how does the Five-Two compare with the Antiquities?
Thanks.

Luke Duke's got one in his tele now. I absolutely love it. I'm not really sure how they stack up to the antiquities. You might shoot him a PM if he doesn't see this thread. I'm sure he can tell you what you need to know.

just for the neck--5/2's kill yer mama in the necks---- get the broadcaster bridge and kill yer papas too!

Re: Five-Two 5/2 for Tele opinions?

I had one in a Tele and didn't care for it. I really didn't see all the hype.... YMMV though and it works for others...

Just the complete opposite of Butch here...

I got that Tele from telerifik and it has 5-2's in both spots. I finally found a Tele tone I could love.

Re: Five-Two 5/2 for Tele opinions?

I liked the 5/2 Tele lead, but not the 5/2 Tele neck pickup -- maybe the one I tried was a dud? So, now you've received all possible responses to your query.

I ended up removing the 5/2 set and replacing it with an Antiquity I flatpole set under the exchange period. The 5/2 lead was smoother and perhaps a bit more polite than the Ant I lead, but they are both more open and dynamic sounding than the JD lead, which has a bit more compressed character to my ears. (Note that I use both the JD and the Ant I Tele leads, along with Nocasters and an STL-2 Hot in various Teles). I definitely prefer the Ant rhythm pickup over the 5/2 or the A2Pro rhythm pickups. AFAIK, the Ant and 5/2 Tele pickups are the only ones available stock from SD as RWRP sets, and that's a plus for those two sets.

Re: Five-Two 5/2 for Tele opinions?

I've got the 5-2 neck pup opposite a Hamel Broadcaster bridge pup. Its a very good pickup, real smooth tone. The A5 on the wound strings keeps them chirpy and twangy, but IMO the A2 mags on the unwound 3 strings is just a tad too smooth and polite for me, I would like a bit more treble and punch there, as I feel that one thing a tele neck pup does NOT need is to be more mellow. Still very good, but I'll probably move on to an all A5 design. YMMV.
