Fixer upper or just junk?

I'm tempted by this, just because it's such a simple circuit and has a lot of the components with it. I like old caps (would have to make sure that they work first), and I could build a better cab, but it has a chasis, tube sockets, and maybe a power tranny (if it works).

So what do you guys think, is it junk or does it have potential?

Depends how much it goes for. I don't know about keeping the old caps though...old/bad caps can ruin your amp not to mention the tone suffers. I have a Silvertone Twin Twelve so badly in need of a cap job and a retube that as I turn it up the thing just gets muddier to the point where it gets useless. I say if it goes for 100 +/- 20 bucks jump on it, get the thing recapped and retubed and rock it.

That would be a pretty sweet amp if you fixed it up. But it really depends on how much it goes for. At the current price defiantly but it will obviously go a lot higher.

In certain areas of the circuit, they can give you tone. I didn't buy the thing (have priorities), I would have experimented with some paper in oils and some vitamin qs as well as wax paper and some of the old mylar caps. What could have been...

My experience with vintage amps is semi-limited, but I'd rather find a schematic and build with new parts. Everyone loves to talk about old amp mojo and I even have a 68 Pro Reverb. But, I think the newer components, new tag board, new trannies, tube sockets, pots and such just lead to a more dependable and much quieter amp overall.

If you're the kind of guy that looks at an old beat up 66 mustang and wants to rebuild her, that's cool. I'm more the kind of guy that would rather buy a Vette or a Viper.
