Fixing scratches on pickups

Re: Fixing scratches on pickups

Like little fine scratches? Brasso works to some extent. But they are gonna get scratched- they are sort of in the war zone there. If it really bothers you, I agree to get some covers.

Novus Plastic Polish. If they're too deep for that, sand to remove scratches, work grits to 1500 plus and then polish, protecting pole pieces as necessary.

I didn't realise fixing scratches on pickups was a thing. Certainly not something I've ever heard anyone ask about before now.

Re: Fixing scratches on pickups

Seems to me the correct answer is Bobbin Toppers. Protect against scratches, and cover any existing ones. Though metal pickup covers are nice, they can have an impact on sound (slightly boxier, sometimes outright dull, depending on quality).

Thinning the top of the pickup doesn't strike me as a wise course, especially if you just chew the top up again and have to repeat... Nor does using epoxy fillers or something (plus getting one that is properly tint matched could be an issue. Better to just hide & prevent it worsening.
