'Flock of Seagulls' tone?!!

Haha. Funny title, huh? I'm not a big fan of these guys, but I heard they have some pretty cool new wave tunes.
Anyway, I was messin' around with my PH-2 trying to get that sound at the end of the song "I ran" You know, it's that repetative riff with the three high notes. How does he get that sound? I put the rate up high on the PH-2, and the depth really low. It created this real subtle wavy tone. Anyone know what the heck I"m talking about? :burnout:

Small Clone chours, delay, good clean amp tone...I was in a band that used to cover that song...i used either my Small Clone or my Electric Mistress, and a DD-5 delay...got me pretty damn close!

Re: 'Flock of Seagulls' tone?!!

I saw them on Bands Reunited, and, IIRC, the dude was just using off the shelf Boss stuff and it sounded exactly like the record (at least to me).

Did you use the dd-5 at the end of the chain or in front of the amp. I'll also say that I had a Rockman Stereo echo.....the best analog delay tone I have ever heard. Very flock of seagulls-y

werd.

Fortunately, I cannot think of one FoS song. The only new wave band that I thought had a decent guitar tone was Echo and the Bunnymen. Not sure if Crowded House are considered new wave, or Brit Pop, but they had some really great guitar tones, as well.

They played nearby my town recently to kick off "80's night" at a club. I thought it would be cool to go see 'em live, but I also went for the cute little 80's chicks with their big ol' hoop ear rings, striped sweaters, and mini-skirts, and such. Good times.

Oh yeah...The singer/keyboardist was the only original member! :smack:
The new guitarist was playing a PRS through a Marshal Half Stack!! :laugh2:
Part of that night was a blur, but I remember having a blast.

I liked their "The more you live the more you love" number. Interpol from NYC seem to be doing a bit of new wave sounds. They're touted as Joy Division, although they remind me more of the Psychedelic Furs. Nice repetitive atmos guitars . Tasty.

How can you not remember "I Ran"?
"and I ran/I ran so far away/I ran all night and day/I couldn't get away"

That two-chord delay drenched riff is also unforgettable. I don't understand how you can't think of that song...it's a pop gem...

Not to menion, it was on all those "Vice city" video game commercials. :22:

Re: 'Flock of Seagulls' tone?!!

I also heard the guitarist on Bands Reunited mention that he used a "nickel" for a pick to help get his tone (yes the 5¢ piece).

Never tried it myself but it may be worth a shot.
