Floyd rose arm

Hi folks, new to the site and hope for a little help. My problem is that the tremolo arm sets to high ,,or is to tall,,has anyone ever bent the arm so it is easier to reach. I must have small hands, the Floyd is sitting level to the body, just seem like it needs bent toward the body more for my likings

Re: Floyd rose arm

Stick the arm in a vice, grab a torch and burn it at the part you want to bend. Hopefully it's a black FR so you can touch it up with some paint afterwards

Re: Floyd rose arm

^^ OFR arms are hardened steel, and not just surface hardenend. You CAN bend them as suggested, but it is guaranteed to weaken the arm at what is already it´s waakest point (the 90° bend). It significantly increases the risk of breakage.

Essentially the only was to do it right is to have an arm custom made. But this will cost a little bit more than the standard 15$

BTW, black can easily be reblued by someone that knows the technique (most luthiers don`t, as it´s promarily a metalworking and gunsmithing method). Replating the arm will be much more expensive and time consuming. But the plating should hold anyway.

What makes me suspicious is that the this is only the second time in 20 years that somebody has voiced this problem, and the last guy had his trem more dumbed down than set up. SO that may or may not be something to look into, as well. Though you did say "level to the body", whoich on a strat or similar would be just fine. But on a guitar like a LP with a back angled neck, following the neck angle is ideal, and would bring the bar at least a bit closer to the top

The only "easy" option I can think of is to see if you can retrofit an Ibanez Edge socket and arm. An Edge bar has the bend much closer to the trem plate, meaning that despite a similar angle the bar is closer to the guitar`s top. I know it works the other way around (OFR Collared Bar + socket on Edge trem), but I´ve never tried it "in reverse".
