floyd rose help

Ok so yesterday I changed my strings. I used the exact same strings as I always do, and I didn't do anything different. Today I picked up my guitar to play and the floyd had raised up. The strings were higher than normal and the guitar just didn't feel right when playing. So today I messed with it a little dropped it down a bit but now the strings are buzzy and it doesn't feel right once again. This thing was playing perfectly before the string change. Once again I'll say I've changed the strings many times and used the exact same strings. Does anyone know what could have happened?

Re: floyd rose help

I guess the springs could be wearing out a little, losing the 'pull' that they had originally. How old is your floyd/guitar?

Re: floyd rose help

The floyds about 3 years old as is the guitar(my jackson). Its just weird that all of a sudden it would go out of whack. I did adjust the springs.

Re: floyd rose help

I don't know, bro. Maybe Zerb or some of the others can tell you something in the morning.

Re: floyd rose help

I'd definetely check the spring tension on both sides of the floyd. Then check the height of the strings from the fretboard and adjust from there.

Re: floyd rose help

This is a longshot, but has the weather changed drastically recently, and most especially on the day you changed strings? A drastic change in humidity could affect things. It happened to me once, and that's all I could think of to attribute it to.

But the solution? Like the others said, I would agree to adjust the trem springs and perhaps the neck relief.

Re: floyd rose help

Did you change from steel to nickel, or anything.

I'd say you just need to do a full setup, including intonation, and consider it a regular maintenance job. Luckily, it's easy to do action jobs on Floyds, because you don't need to concern yourself with individual saddle height like on Fenders.....just get the two pivot bolts set at the perfect height, make sure the baseplate is flush, and set the truss rod and intonation. Before you start, set all the fine tuners in the middle of their travel.

Re: floyd rose help

A full check definitely seems to be in order..... If I had the axe in front of me I might be able to fiddle with it and figure it out, but from here a good once over is about all I can recommend....

If it still persists afterwards...Hmmm.....Good question....

Re: floyd rose help

where the springs unscrewed when you changed the strings? or did you remove all the strings then change them to new ones instead of one at a time?

Re: floyd rose help

Thanks for all the replies guys. I guess its just one of those weird things that no one will ever know.

Re: floyd rose help

Could one of the springs slipped off, so that you now have 2 instead of 3?

As someone said, maybe it was just the weather. Did it suddenly get really dry or really humid?

Re: floyd rose help

This happened to the trem on my Strat once - one day after a string change it just popped up. No explanation why. I got the tech to block it - I never use it anyway.

Re: floyd rose help

No all the the springs are where they should be. Ratherdashing its good to know thats its happened to someone else too. The weather hasn't really been weird or anything. Its been extremely hot and humid but its been that way for a while.
