Floyd Rose posts coming out

[I NEED HELP123]

Hello everyone,

I bought a guitar, but it needed work. Finish was scratched so I polished it. I rewired the guitar and I installed missing parts. This was my first "project".

When I bought the guitar the posts were sticking out a little bit. It's wasn't that bad so I didn't bother.

Today I played the guitar and found the action quite high, so I shimmed te neck. Then when I had setup the guitar again, I saw that the posts were sticking out a lot more.

What do you guys think I should do?
1.Fill the holes, redrill the holes and put em back in? (would a normal drill suffice or do i need a drill press?)
2.Get the posts out and glue them back in? (what glue should i use?)
3.Bring the guitar to a pro?
4.other?

Yeah pull them out and glue them in. I imagine a lot of people will say to plug the holes and redrill but to me that seems like a huge mission for something that can be sorted out with a spot of glue.

The inserts backing out is common in softer woods (Basswood), and you just glue them in. I would suggest pushing them back flush, filling the stud holes with some tissue paper, and then drop some water thin CA glue around the outer edge of the insert. The paper will prevent the glue from gumming up the threads if any drips inside.

I only had that problem once and i used titebond because that's all i had. Just a small amount to add some tension in there and you can always reverse it by heating the stud up and pulling it back out.

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier, my browser didn't refresh.

My body is swamp ash, so that can indeed be the cause of it. But I think I will get the posts out and then glue them. I think that if I won't, I will damage the finish. (I tried to repair some dents in the finish with superglue, but on some spots I sanded too far �� I luckily didn't sand all the way through)

I have pulled the posts out and put some tightbond on them (not too much) and stuck them back in.
I hope they don't come out again.

Btw I got the posts out with a claw hammer. If you do this, make sure you don't damage your finish

Hope it works out long term for ya!

I would have suggested filling and re-drilling (or more accurately, drilling bigger, filling, then drilling...and yes, drill press is a must).

Unless the hole is damaged, that is way overkill. Inserts working loose is fairly common and usually just wicking down some thin CA glue firms up the wood and locks the inserts in place.

Agreed in alot of cases that is overkill. However I've done it a couple times on basswood bodies because the wood is just so soft it was only a matter of time before it poked up again.

What I am planning to do with my Carvin which needs a small "relocation" of the studs for better alignment, (and which wood was always weak around the posts) I have attempted drilling just a bit on one side and filling just the other side with MMA glue. If this does not work, or if MMA proves weak, I am going for fill/re-drill.
