floyd rose question

I've seen the new Charvel So-Cal and San Dimas in the local shop and when the green So-Cal comes out I think I'm gonna have an urge for an impulse buy. I just play at home for fun and have a Gibson LP Studio and an Explorer, two of the three guitars I've wanted since I was a kid. The other I always wanted was a hair metal super strat (you know neon color and all). Now that I can finally afford a splurge now and then I wonder though if dealing with a Floyd would just be too much headache for me since I've never owned a trem equipped guitar of any kind.

Re: floyd rose question

As for the Original Floyd Rose units... They're an odd beast at first, but once you learn how to use and maintain it, it WILL NOT fail you. I'd say my usual "accept no substitutes" line, but word is the Charvel Production line has a licensed exact copy (wasn't PING the only company that could do that until recently?). I've yet to try one personally to see if it is up to snuff.
And hey, if the licensed unit doesn't perform well, grab an actual 'Made in Germany' one off Ebay...

Found this tutorial in a quickie Google search..

Though this makes them seem a wee bit more complicated than need be IMO, it'll give you some helpful hints...:friday:

Re: floyd rose question

I'm in the same boat as you, kinda. I've owed 3 trem equipped axes; carvin dc135 with a wilkonson(easy adjustment) a fender with a vintage trem and now my latest the carvin dc727 with a floyd. I'm still adjusting, your palm muting and trem picking right hand placement will have to be altered, which is the most annoying thing so far. I still haven't changed strings or done any setup work, so I'm in for some learning. I honestly dunno how to change strings on it to be honest, I need to look it up b/c I wanna re-setup the axe.
