For some reason all Stew Mac studs are a bit loose. Put some thread seal tape (plumbers tape) on there, and it tightens right up.

the Gotoh and the Stew-Mac studs got here today. I plan on eventually installing the Gotoh studs, so I got the StewMac studs, but the bushings were indeed a tad bit loose in the holes.

the 10.3mm inserts and the 9.96mm inserts don't mix very well. :wink: don't even ask how I learned that. haha!

if you end up wanting to try the brass StewMac 9.96mm ones, drill a fresh hole for fresh plugs, let glue dry at least 24 hours, and re-drill with a 3/8" bit. always use a drill press.

also, always keep an eye out for insert specs and measure then once they are in-hand. there are a few real FR inserts floating around out there that measure at 9.96mm rather than the 10.3mm. don't ask me how I learned that either. lol!

Installed last night, working smoothly. Today I've been stretching the strings and perfecting tension, all that's left is intonation, which will be interesting as I've never done it before lol. How do I post high res pics on here, I want to show yall the finished product

Easy enough. Yeah I've heard that the process is super difficult, I'll probably tackle it tomorrow when I have time. I'll post those pics later tonight after I get off work

I wouldn't call if difficult, it's just tedious and a pain in the ass. Good thing is once you set it your usually good for a long while.

yes it is.. i usually get it really close.. then i further tweak it bit by bit over a few days until i'm satisfied.
i have learned that by keeping a little tension oin the strings and using the intonation wrench to nudge the saddles a bit by bit produces satisfactory results

Had Gotoh's for ages...Schaller is not really what it once was.
Also the Edge from Ibanez is made by Gotoh...and those has last me a lifetime by now.

Does anybody know if the Gotoh is compatible with Floyd Upgrades, or does the bridge already address the issues FU parts are designed to solve?

Hehe No we have a resident Nathan Brown that's on a temporary ban.

I think all the gotoh stuff is diffrent to the fr. Saddles/blocks etc wont fit. Gotoh floyds are good straight out the box imo and there just a mdoern day good bang for buck tremolo.

Ah, that was my first comment in this forum, so that explains why I was confused.

I'm having a Searls built and it comes with the Gotoh Floyd, so I'm trying to do my research on the bridge.

It will be perfect construction/quality wise. If you like how it feels that will be the deciding factor.
