Floyd rose setup question

First, let me say that I know even is best, and have done a few setups in my day, so please dont just say that should be even.. thanks...

I just put a big trem block on one of my charvels. I used the biggest one that Killer makes. When I measured according to their info, it looked like it would fit. AND, if the pins were back alil further, it would.
The block fits in the bottom hole and should have mounted against the inside wall. I wanted this as Im using a Dtuna on this guitar. However. It didnt fit thru the top hole, so I had to open that up. Bummer number one..
Then, I get it all installed, the trem unit is alil bit stinkbug...(raised in back) Due to where the pins are, Im gonna have to open up the front of the cavity too.
Aside from asthetics, would this hurt anything? It intonates and all.. thanks

as long as the studs don't move, it shouldn't hurt anything. Just make sure you leave enough wood around the studs or bushings to hold them securely.

The point of the bridge being level is that it will return to pitch. However, if the trem is blocked, or dive only, rock on.

I agree, but on one condition: If what you WANT is for the block to sit flush, and BE the blocking mechanism, but due to poor fitting its just a tiny corner or edge that is touching. If this is the case it will wear and compress and could cause the occasional tuning issue as the block digs in. Best to have a nice, straight and flat surface for the block to rest against.

?? What "pins" do you mean? Are you talking about the leafsprings under the finetuners bottoming out on the body?? Or the half mm of extra thread from the intonation screws?

Yes and no, ideally you`ll follow the angle of the neck and not have to worry about intonation tweaks affecting action (however minutely) due to the skewed plane. But in principle you´re right.

^^ Yep. if it´s just a little corner you´ll probably want to knock it out before it knocks itself out after a deep dive and release, partly also becasse it´s always cleaner to cut something out on purpose than to have it suddenly smashed off by blunt force trauma.

Maybe a quick pic or 2 if it´s not too much hassle? That way we all know we`re talking about the same thing(s). :beerchug:

jeff, Im not OCD, but am MEGA picky about my guitars.. I almost dont Like this one anymore since she is "flawed" . crazy huh? Not quite that bad, but its annoying the heck out of me.. I was hoping that it would rest flush so I could have dive only, but its too tight. Ill prolly have to go down a block size.. Im scared to drill it out.. I did the back, but the front has the posts and all the solid wood.. It appears to be more than just a corner or a Burr.. its the whole way accross..

I hear ya man, it would annoy me too. I have a big brass block in my Charvel as well. I went with the medium size one (I think) so that it would not actually be the blocking mechanism. I use a tremol-no for that.

I did some more work in this and got it to where the trem is nearly perfectly FLAT!! YAY!!
