Fluence & Blackout

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone had tried mixing the fluence classics with a blackout? Did you have much success?

I’ve got a guitar coming in the next few days that comes stock with the fluence classics but I really love the grind of the mick Thompson or the retribution blackouts in the bridge so I am anxious to see if anyone has experience.

Thanks!

Are fishman's setup to hook right in other active system's without changing any of the electronics?

They use the same 3 pin solderless system as EMG, but all the additional functions need additional connections that don’t match EMG’s implementation. They do provide jumpers to “hard wire” any of the options you want though.

Sometimes it's not as easy. I actually found certain revisions of the Classics have the phase flipped compared to other revisions or EMG's and Blackouts. They work with each other, but if you combine even the same model but different revisions of the Classics, you get an out-of-phase sound in the middle position.

That, and Blackouts are insanely hot and the Classic Neck pickup is not. Like, at all.

Got it.

I ordered a set of the mick Thomson blackouts because the retributions are sold out. Which is too bad because the retributions are probably my fave 7 string pickups ever. I also ordered a single ceramic fluence modern for the bridge and switch that before I go the blackout route.

Have played with the fluence pickups for a few days I must admit…I have no strong feelings about them in any direction. I’m just going to try to keep playing them until I change the strings and setup.
