Flying V and Explorer owners

Re: Flying V and Explorer owners

I can't tell from the cell phone pic, are they natural mahogony or Korina RI? If Korina, do you know the era they were built? I'd love one, but all I ever see are the Epi ones.

They're mahogany.

Re: Flying V and Explorer owners

What is it? Very nice.

edwards (an ESP japan division) FV-140M. which is a limited run in itself, but i think mine might be a more limited variety and/or a one-off. ive investigated all that i can with japanese sites (despite having no idea what anything in japanese days) and it seems that the standard setup of this run was with an alder body and a 25.5" scale. however, mine has a mahogany body and a 24.75" scale. so...i guess its even rarer.

Almost all liquor stores have Guinness.

:laugh2:

Dude. . . so what do I have to give you to call this baby my own??

pry it from my cold dead fingers. after digging up my coffin. this one goes to the grave. haha. seriously, i'd sell my family before this guitar.

Re: Flying V and Explorer owners

My V has a Full Shred in back and a Gibson Superhumbucker in front. The Explorer (actually a '79 Dean Z) has an Invader in the back and a Dimarzio SDH in front.

Re: Flying V and Explorer owners

In my Faded Flying V I have a Bareknuckle Riff Raff in the bridge and a Mississippi Queen humbucker sized P90 in the neck.

I'm toying with the idea of changing the bridge and tailpiece to black to match the knobs and pickups but not too sure yet......

Re: Flying V and Explorer owners

Wiring up my Hamer Explorer with 59 in the neck and I'm trying out the GFS VEH at the bridge.

My previous Gibson Explorer Pro has 500t/496.

My previous Hamer Korina had a setof unknown Hex-Ceramic pups that sounded like a beehive after beeing hit by a stick.

Re: Flying V and Explorer owners

I am getting a custom explorer (KL) built for me and I will be putting EMG 81/60 in it.

Re: Flying V and Explorer owners

Brow, how is that V not your avatar???

I dunno to be honest! :D

I don't really have too much 'emotional connection' with the V tbh, it's 1 of my guitars as more of a tool than a desire if you know what I mean?

Whereas the Strat in my avatar now is 1 I stripped and rebuilt to make it what I want, and was also my first try at pickup routing, so I feel it has more of 'me' in it if you know what I mean?

And now reading that back it sounds SO corny! :D

So many beautiful guitars in this thread... wow...

IN NO WAY does this even begin to compare, but it's my first guitar, and we are totally still in the honeymoon period, so...

Re: Flying V and Explorer owners

Caved into my GAS, now what pickguard and pickups to swap on it? Cream? Black? Zebra? Gold?

That looks really nice with the gold hardware on there (they usually come with chrome right?). I'd go with a black pickguard and keep gold covers on whatever pickups you end up putting in there.

Re: Flying V and Explorer owners

I am getting it built from www.ranguitars.com Check out their gallery.
These guys are from Poland and they can replicate anything you ask for. Their prices are pretty reasonable comparing to ESP or Jackson custom shop.
I will get mine for 3K.

Re: Flying V and Explorer owners
