*Usually* spectacularly failing, unless the subject is in one of the age or socioeconomic brackets (college freshman, half-year unemployed, recently divorced) consistent with suddenly falling off the wagon for 6 months or so... otherwise, subject soon ends up with a gym membership, finds church or AA, or grows into a full-fledged chubby
