Flying V Nuts! Is there a better way of cutting a Flying V nut?

Re: Flying V Nuts! Is there a better way of cutting a Flying V nut?

Thanks, I thought of that too. I have an FRX on my Explorer but there are 2 problems with using the FRX locking nut on my Flying V.
1. The Les Trem II does not have fine tuners.
2. The Flying V truss rod cover is gigantic and the FRX locking nut will not cover the 3 factory truss rod cover screw holes.
Cheers

Time for fully locking tumers?

Okay Guys. I received my new Zero Glide nut and attempted to remove the factory nut but it's in there pretty damn good. It's a 2008 Gibson and they used Epoxy (them bastards). I scored, tapped and wiggled it loose from the fret board and the bottom of the slot but it is permanently attached to the peg head veneer. So I abandon ship for now and I'm determining whether or not to proceed. If I do, I will have to cut through it with a dovetail saw or a Dremel cut off wheel perhaps. Thoughts?

You agreed with me that nippers are a good choice of tool for this.... So you forgot already?

Re: Flying V Nuts! Is there a better way of cutting a Flying V nut?

I used the nippers but they are no match for the bond between the nut and the peg head veneer. The mahogany neck started to show a hairline crack under the veneer so I backed off and decided that I will either leave it or cut through the nut like he does in the YouTube video.

I finally got brave and cut out the #Gibsonnut #coriannut. The damn thing was held in with a ridiculous amount of epoxy.
So far, I'm liking the #Zeroglidenut
Cheers!
