Thanks for all the responces, especially the one with the link to the sound test. Now, here's the deal. I have and Ibanez SA160 ash bodied guitar that I souped up considerably. It's an ssh, that I put a Dimarzio Virtual Paf in the bridge, a Dimarzio Virtual Vintage Blues in the middle, and a Dimarzio HS3 stack in the neck. I also put Sperzel locking tuners, a graphite nut, and coil taps on both buckers. It's a blues monster. It is, having said that, very bright. Mainly due to the ash I suspect. Not so bright that it sounds bad by any means, just...well....bright. The only way I can describe it. Now, I want to get another one, only the SA160 in mahogany. What I'm looking for sound wise is a warmer, mellower, even darker if you will, sounding guitar. So the question of pickups surfaces again. I specifically chose those pickups for the other Ibanez, knowing that I needed something that would sound good in ash. I don't now want to buy brighter sounding pickups, that in mahogany, would essentially sound just like the ash one. I thought about 2 Quarter Pounders, with a 59 bridge, but I really dont like noise from single coils. I am actually leaning toward another set of Dimarzio's, but am not sure what to get in order to get the sound I want. Does anybody have any good suggestions, probably in the Dimarzio line? I thought about a HS2 stack, a Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues, and a Paf pro. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
