Foo Fighters Cover

I've been working on this for 3 days, getting the production right. I re-recorded the guitars some 5 times before I got this version. Enjoy!

Re: Foo Fighters Cover

It could be the laptop I'm listening to this on, but it sounds a hair bright on the guitar. You get a really nice crunch tone and it's very open sounding, certainly not the least bit boxy (which seems more prevalent these days). You must have cranked the heck out of that amp.

What else can I say other than the fact that it's a great song and it sounds like you had a lot of fun with it. Good job!

Re: Foo Fighters Cover

I will note that at this point the whole song is lacking in the low end department. I'm taking my recording gear to my friend's place tomorrow to record him playing bass, because he has a sweet bass guitar sound.

It was a lot of fun, and I'm still mixing certain tracks in, trying to get that perfect sound. Laptop speakers make the sound bright on my end too, but with my surround headphones the guitars sound great.

I did have the amp cranked to a band-type setting. Recording is the only excuse my parents take for that kind of volume in the house, and it just sounds so great that way.

Nice; the bass will fill up that low end well :) I like that you're not eager to crank up the bass on your guitar recording; so many guys have a tendency to do that and all it does is muddy up the mix. Granted you can always high pass filter it out down the road, but recording it with the mix in mind certainly saves you a step.

There's nothing quite like a cranked amp :fing2:

Re: Foo Fighters Cover

I have a new version up. Listen to it below. This one has the bass in the mix, and I think it filled out those missing frequencies perfectly. It sounds complete.

Re: Foo Fighters Cover

I dunno, on my earphones, there is a big hole in the middle. Mids are just not there. I think the guitar has a bit too much gain on it. Seems a bit choked, rather than the fat fullness. Often in recording, you can use a lot less gain than you might think. How close were you looking to get to original?
