I'd go with what fender says on their site, 59 bridge and pg for the neck. I'm SO tempted to buy one..... I'd probably put the PG+ in the neck, something else in the bridge (JB probably or CC) and replace the tuners with locking tuners. So I'd do some upgrade work! But still a great price for a nice guitar.

Actually it already has locking tuners. I think that's what makes it a great deal is that it doesn't need any upgrades.

Okay, after playing it throughout the day I found it wouldn't stay in tune very well after using the whammy bar but they included an extra spring in the little bag with the allen wrenches so I installed it giving it 3 springs and while I had the trem cavity cover off I put some foam under the springs and under the cover (on top of the springs) and it eliminated the spring noise that was very evident. Also, there was some string rattle so I gave the truss rod about 1/2 a turn and this gave it about .010 clearance at the 8th fret. These were common minor issues and cost me zero out of pocket to remedy. It isn't a high end guitar but getting one at this price with quality pickups and no mods needed gave me a tremolo equipped guitar that I was missing.

Is the guitar worth the normal $599-$629 selling price? Highly debatable. My Korean Wolfgang I had was much higher quality at around that price. But for $299, definitely.

These models are notorious for not staying tune. They are inexpensive guitars so they have a crap setup at the bridge and nut. The good news is that a pro setup fixes all the problems and makes it play nicely. But until then, you might have the problem that the guitar will go out of tune every time you touch that trem bar.

Did you ever take that G&L Invader I bought from you in for setup? I'm not complaining but the setup on it was EXTREMELY HORRIBLE. Did you have trouble playing it that way? When I get a new guitar I usually set it up to my liking anyway so I don't mind, but it needed a lot of work: Needed a new sustain block, someone ground the hell off the top of it and uneven to boot, and it was still too long. it needed new springs, was too stiff and didn't keep tune well. The neck wasn't straight in the pocket, the string alignment was way off on the fretboard. The intonation was all out of whack and one of the floyd saddles rattled a lot so he had to take it out and peen it together to eliminate that, and the socket for the floyd bar was loose. lol. I don't know how you managed to play it like that. lol. It's all set up now though and I love it.

Just saying that there are a lot of things a pro can do to a guitar and fix that most people wouldn't otherwise notice. My guitar teacher/tech did magic on this guitar. I'm sure with the right setup that showmaster will play awesome and stay in tune no problem. Sorry for the hijack. :fing2:

WOW! Did you get the right guitar from the post office? LOL Did the bad playability occur after you went up a string gauge? I thought that thing was setup great and playability wasn't a factor at all in my decision to sell it. It was strictly a financial decision. That was the nicest guitar I've ever played/owned and have a high regard for G&L's after owning 2.

Yeah man it's definately a killer guitar. Not anything wrong with it, just needed some attention is all. I really hope it wasn't G&L that did that hack job on the sustain block. It was probably the owner before you or whoever he took it to. It looks like Ray Charles did it.

Re: For $349.99 I couldn't resist......

I saw that last week and suggested that people snatch it up before it's gone. Unfortunately, I have no funds for anything other than bills right now, or else I would've bought one too.
