would you go ibanez or schecter.

Played a schecter C1 today and a couple Ibanezes around the dollar range given in the title.

Loved the necks on pretty much all of them...but yeah Its so hard to choose!

what would you choose for tone, playability, variety of tones, and quality.

Re: For about 500-800$...

I would go schecter for hard rock and classic rock, Ibanez for metal and shred. C1s are great, I like the PT tele guitar. I love schecters and they are really quality guitars.

Re: For about 500-800$...

Schecter, because mahogany/maplecap sounds bigger and better than basswood in almost every case. And the hardware is Tonepros......and they use pickup rings w/Duncans.
A new Duncan bridge will match up with the Duncan Designed neck, whereas you might run into phase/polarity problems adding one to a DiMarzio, although I'm not positive.

Also Ibanez necks have more tendency to bow or twist than a more solid Schecter neck, from my experience.

+1. ibanez guitars have very soft necks. not to mention they're mahogany bodies are also soft.

I would say schecter, except for maybe this:

Sexiest. Ibanez. Ever.

Re: For about 500-800$...

Out of the two companies listed, I'd go Shecter, as I can't get on with Ibanez necks.

My personal prefference goes with a used US Hamer though.

Re: For about 500-800$...

schecter are great!! Try get a custom diamond series PT if you can find one...they dont make them anymore, just the standard PT's :(

Re: For about 500-800$...

Ibanez FTW

Ya'll forgot about the Ibanez Artist...maple+mahogany goodness with a beefier neck and good pickups. It's nice to know they still make something besides shreddy little slivers of guitar.

I've owned a few of both, and despite wanting to like Ibanez better I always am left with the feeling that Schecters are just better guitars. I don't like their appeal to demonic imagery and won't buy those models, but it seems that people just respect the brand more. I think their overall tone is more consistent. I miss my Schecter C1+ now and then, but I do not miss my Ibanez SZ520. More or less the same guitar, but the Ibby always sounded cheap and had awkward frets.

Purchase Price Vs. Resale Value
Ibanez SZ520: $549 paid, $229 resale
Schecter C1+: $479 paid, $408 resale

Both included a hard case. The Ibby had free shipping but no pickups.

So there you go. Buy a Schecter.

I'd pick Schecter because Ibanez necks make my hands hurt.

I also owned a Schecter years ago - it was my first "real" guitar - and it was a really solid, well-playing instrument.

For what kind of music?

I'm really not too fond of the Schecters in that price range, they look and play nice, but kind of a cheap feel and very generic sound. I'd prefer an Ibanez although sound isn't that great there either.

I'd go for something ESP-made if looks and/or metallization are important or a PRS SE if not.
