For all Jackson AND Fender people...

Pierre

Stratologist
Right now I have a Charvel model 4 and I am totally satisfied with it but of course, I have GAS and the urge to mod anything that touches my beginer's hands.

The plan:

Buy a MIM Fender Fat Stratocaster. Yes, it won't be better than the Charvel, but it has a pickguard and I love wine red (alternative: buy a second model 4 and block the Floyd)
Buy a SD cool rails, a seymour duncan Hot, a bareknuckle miracle man (the brudge pickup I settled for... shame on me) and an EMG or even Jackson midboost

Put the SDs + Bareknucke on the Charvel
Put the Jackson pickups and midboost on the Fender instead of the second tone control, wire the remaining tone control to work on all pickups
Rock out

Do you reckon the Jackson pickups will sound alright in Alder? I guess they'll be brighter than in what they are now (basswood guitar) but with the midboost they should work fine (they were designed to work with it after all)

And now that I think of it, getting a second model 4 is a much better idea, but I want a dark red pickguarded guitar... meeh... model 3a maybe...? They're quite rare and they have no midboost so... ah well...If you guys have any advise...

Re: For all Jackson AND Fender people...

Can you use those midboost systems with passive pickups? I honestly have no clue, but I've only ever seen them used with active setups.

Re: For all Jackson AND Fender people...

The Jackson midboost JE1200 is active but the pickups are passive, they were designed to work with it though.

Sorry I meant passive. I got mixed up first, hence the but.

I like buts.
ok... anyhoo er...

Re: For all Jackson AND Fender people...

There's no reason why it wouldn't work. But you'd have to strip ALL the electronics from the Model 4 to put into the Strat. The 4's usedsomething like 50k volume pots as well as 50k or 250k tone/mid boost pots. Can't remember exactly off hand. Plus, you'll need to use the output jack from the 4 as well. After all that, there's no reason why the pickups wouldn't sound good in an alder bodied Strat. It's all subjective anyway.

Re: For all Jackson AND Fender people...

Jackson even sold these systems as aftermarket replacements for othger guitars.... as long as you pull the entire wiring harness with pots and jack there should be no problems....

Whether or not it sounds good: only your ears can tell you that ;)

Re: For all Jackson AND Fender people...

all this talk about jackson makes me wanna try out one. i havent got a chance to play one yet, only played fenders, esp, ibanezs.. but not yet a jackson. dun laugh.

Re: For all Jackson AND Fender people...

When you do it'll blow you away :P IMO they are in a league of their own

Re: For all Jackson AND Fender people...

Mhmm that's about about the electronics... :( It'd probably be a little too complicated. So the Jackson pickups would not work with an EMG midboost then? What if I just got a seperate stereo jack for the Strat?
I'm pretty sure the SDs WILL work fine with what's already in the Charvel now but if you think the contrary tell...

The jackson pickups will also work with an EMG Midbopoost, afterburner et.al. just like any other passive pickup will.

The Jackson midboost is already a 2-pot system, MVol, MTone, midboost, so that wouldn´t be an issue?

But which midboost are we talking about here??? THwe Jackson JE-1200 or the EMG SPC?

ANY passive pickup will work with the Jackson circuit.... the only issue is whether or not you like the tone.

Re: For all Jackson AND Fender people...

Well the Jackson pickups (J50BC, J200) were designed to work with the Jackson midboost right?
And we're talking about both midboost... I really like the Jackson one but the EMG is a 20db boost right? As opposed to 6? So I'd like to experiement with that if I don't find a JE1200 for the Strat.
Basically what I'm wondering is whether the Jackson pickups will work as efficiently with the EMG boost than with the Jackson one.

Re: For all Jackson AND Fender people...

They´re passive pickups, they´ll work the same regardless of what you put behind them.... They´ll just sound different, and nobody can really tell you what to expect ;)
