For all you JB Humbucker in the neck users...

It's a bridge pup, so how do you orient yours?

1. Do you install it upside down so the screws are towards the neck?
2. Or is it right side up with screws towards the bridge?
3. I'm splitting hairs. It don't matter... just shut up and play yer' guitar.

Re: For all you JB Humbucker in the neck users...

I install mine so the logo is the correct direction, screw side towards the bridge.

I believe Zerb does it the other way around, but he doesn't have a logo on his. I'll search his photobucket to confirm, though.

Slug side towards the bridge - use the slug side if you split it.

Re: For all you JB Humbucker in the neck users...

When I used one it was the screw side twords the bridge so that the logo was in the correct direction. Thats the way my Jackson SL-4 came from the factory.

Re: For all you JB Humbucker in the neck users...

Just checked, Zerb installs his with the screw coils facing the neck.

Re: For all you JB Humbucker in the neck users...

What kind of stupid question is that? Do you like your tones...

I've got a JB IN THE NECK! Of COURSE I like my tones! :laugh2:

;) Let us know which way you like better!

If I didn't like you, I'd have to slap you, boy!!! :laugh2: :laugh2:

Hey Dead Skin Slayer, how well does the JB clean up in the neck slot? I'm going to replace the Duncan Design in the neck slot of my H-207 pretty soon here and I'm thinkin about the JB as a possibility. What are the sound characteristics like, as of now I'm on a really big nevermore binge so how does it stack up to Jeff's neck pickup tone?

Well Jeff's recorded neck pickup tone has always been 100% EMG's.

That said, I love mine. It cleans up really well actually, splits gorgeously. Cleans are worse than others, due to the high output, but it doesn't distort the pre-amp like a DD would. It's got a great singing, fluid lead tone, that makes gives fast picked runs a less defined Petrucci-like tone, and legato runs smooth as silk! I love it!

Re: For all you JB Humbucker in the neck users...

Hmmm, I was considering a distortion neck but now I just may have to rethink my stance here.

how are the cleans compared to a DDn (for anyone whos tried both)

Try a full shred, you'd probably like it.

If you put a JB in the neck slot, don't forget it must be very low set to get the best tones and a reasonable volume balance. It's a relatively powerful pickup and it can easily overpower most bridge pickups. Mine are set down around 7-8mm and give a lovely stratty tone when split and beautifully creamy, well defined leads in HB mode. just play with the height until you are satisfied, s'easy.

I keep mine where I'd keep a normal neck bucker, and never have problems overbearing the bridge pickups, so YMMV.

What do you use in the bridge then ? EMGs at 18 volts ? 14 is a bit young to be terminally deaf!

Re: For all you JB Humbucker in the neck users...

i like the Jb in the bridge. havent tried it at the neck. any of you JB neckies tried JB/JB combo before?

I use a Duncan Custom, but the the Distortion, Dime, Invader, C5, CC or another JB balances fine if you don´t screw the Neck pup straight up into the strings ;)

BTW, 18V EMGs don´t have more output, but merely more headroom for the internal preamp to work with, resulting in a more open less compressed and more dynamic tone ;)

I prefer the JB, at the very latest when split.. I find the DDn to be a bit "stale" but admittedly a bit clearer....

As DSS Stated I use mine with the screw coil towards the neck, and I use the Screw coil when split because It´s a bit brighter and I can adjust levels more evenly (actually the same stagger works just fine, but if i WANTED to I could)..)

As my sig would indicate, I use a JB in the bridge, soon to be a Custom.
