I have a few pix of my PRS guitars on my guitar page.

As for pickups, I've had Dragon 1, Dragon 2, and HFS/VB pickups in my guitars. I really like the D2s but didn't care for the D1s. The HFS is a good hot pickup but the VB is pretty lame IMO

It's whale blue....just the color I was looking for, but would you believe I was looking for a Jackson or something with a Floyd at the time.

I'm with GJ, it's much more than the finish that goes into the price. It's the lightweight mahogany, the fretwork, and neck profile. Things (IMHO) GMIC could take a lesson on. Nothing like buying a new LP, and sending it off for fret work.

The only thing I hate about new guitars is breaking them in. There is just no way to get rid of the stiffness without playing the fool out of it.....or INTO it in my case. :laugh2:

Re: for PRS owners

Interesting timing of this thread...

When I heard "the Loner" by Gary Moore in 1987, I was totally blown away by the tone (and playing) on that instrumental...when I found it was a PRS Gary played on that I bought a Whale Blue 10 top w/ Birds c24 right away and I've loved PRS guitars ever since.

PRS got as big as quickly as he did because he came into market during a time when Fender and Gibson were producing alot of crap and the "Super Strats" were king..PRS offered an instrument that cured alot of "real life" issues...poor QC, a vintage trem that was smooth and stayed in tune (with locking tuners), it had the vintage vibe in sound, quality, looks and feel for those who were not into the Super Strats, etc.

I've owned two custom 24's, played nearly everything he's made, and I just put a 20th anniversary EDIT: NON-10 top McCarty on layaway as I've wanted one for quite some time. I played 4 different McCarty's yesterday and while no two sounded or felt exactly they same they were all EXTREMELY high quality and wonderful sounding instruments...flawless nut work, flawless fretwork, flawless finish, flawless neck joint, flawless inlays, flawless wood, exceptional resonance and exceptional playability was there on each and every one of them. I didn't get my #1 color choice (I got the tobacco SB, which is like a Gibson Iced tea finish), but that one had the best sustain and warmest tone. Ahhh..I forgot..the pic is online...lessee if this works...HERE is the exact McCarty i bought

The thing is, I went in the store with the intention of buying/trying a 57 or 58 Historic reissue Les Paul. They did not have either but I played two custom shop instruments...one was a incredible looking barely used 59 reissue with the prettiest grained maghogany I've ever seen (I couldn't afford that but jes wanted to try it...it was like 4K), and another custom shop standard (not a RI) with a gorgeous top. Unfortunately, the quality level was not quite there compared to the PRS guitars I played. Yet the Gibsons were 1-2K plus more. The 59 had some neck joint finish/glue problems and the nut was a little screwy...the custom shop Standard had extremely sharp fret ends throughout the entire length and the neck binding was also kinda poor considering the cost. I'm a Les Paul/Gibson whore in general, but it was kinda sad, and I was really disappointed. I've seen some "goofy" reeds but they are few and far between. As much as I love them, alot of Gibsons are overpriced..some are just not very good instrument values for the $, some are exceptional, and ya gotta weed through several before you find the "magic" one. On the other hand, I think if the tone does it for you, the PRS' are worth every penny as the quality and the consistency is there 99% of the time. Every "flawed" one I've seen has been something really minor..usually a bad switch, cold solder joint for the pup/s, etc.

JeffB one of the smaller nits I have is when people call an original Custom a "Custom 24", IIRC they did not call them "Custom 24's" until the Custom 22 was produced. Yeah, I'm :offtopic: but you were there for the creation!:newangel:

LOL. Yeah back then it was just a custom or a standard with a sweet switch :D

Nice McCarty BTW wise choice over any Les Paul IMO

Thanks :D It doesn't sound like a Les Paul, nothing else does, nor did I expect it to... but it does sound excellent in it's own right, is a high quality axe and plays like a dream :D

another question....this ones have that 10 flamed top...the "standard" flamed maple top that comes with the axe is very diferent from this ones?...

oh...come on guys...put here pics of your PRS :laugh2: :laugh2:

Re: for PRS owners

Here's my two. Both are Millenium McCarties....2000's. The Teal black now has zebra C-5/59. The dark vintage sunburst one is stock.

It varies. My Custom 24 Rosewood is a non-10 top. It's definitely at the low end of the figure scale.

IMO, even my CEs have more figured tops.

anyone with a gray black :D  :laugh2: ?¿?

i´m gonna try a custom 24 this afternoon... i will come back w the review later

Re: for PRS owners

I jinxed myself :(

Brought the McCarty home last nite..bridge pup went totally dead...GAHHHHHHH. It cut out twice when I was playing it at the shop, but that particular McCarty sounded best so I def wanted it......the tech there supposedly got it fixed, and him and the salesperson said they both played it for awhile with no issues.

The guitar sounds/plays so well though I'm not too concerned..it's worth a little initial setback :D

The one on the right is just a natural finish. 10 top. Its a looker.

Re: for PRS owners

Mt McCarty is great and most PRs guitars are very sweet indeed, but overall I think they still lack some of the personality and vibe of a good Gibson.

I have thought of replacing my Mccarty with an SG Standard.

Re: for PRS owners

hi again...come back with the review of the prs custom 24 i tried yesterday...

er...well, the best thing i can say about the guitar is that "she" doesn´t feel like a vintage...thats a lot for me...i don´t want a LP neck, and this one comes with a wide thin neck, that is very very comfortable but not rounded at all...feels like that kind of neck that the shred machines have...

it´s a lightweigh axe (compared with a lp or an explorer :P) but the tone is very warm; oh thats another good thing about that guitar...the pups are very good...i tried the axe on a triple recto, on raw and high gain modes...very good axe...i can´t say is the best one i´ve tried but this one is like it had the best of the USA Jackson and J. Custom Ibanez for feel, and the best from Gibson and Fender for vibe and tone...very happy with the axe...

i´d put her a pair of duncans...i asked about that option, but the guy at the store told me prs gets angry if you ask them for this...i dunno which ones...for hard rock/metal styles the tone wizard suggest a DD/59' set...i´m very pleased with that idea :laugh2:

what do you think guys??

thanks again for the replies

*edit* i forgot to put a pic of the one i´m looking for...grayblack 10 flame top
