Hi guys,
I made 2 hybrids from a Seymour Duncan Custom and Seymour Duncan JB. I'm keeping the pickup with the JB magnet and custom slug coil, so I don't need the other pickup with the Custom magnet and JB slug coil.

I put it a guitar to test out and it worked 100% and I didn't get any feedback under high gain(is there any other way to play? )

I actually never tried one of these? is it really 50% JB and 50% custom for the final tone? I love both of those stock models and having both at once would be like gettin the barbie twins in the sack!

I'd say it depends. I'm currently using a Custom/JB hybrid in my main axe. It has the Custom screw coil, JB slug with a ceramic magnet. I'd say it's like 70-80% custom and 20-30% JB. I also made one with the JB screw poles, Custom slug poles and A5 magnet. I'd say that one is just the reverse, 70-80% JB and 20-30% custom. Totally anecdotal, and that's just what I'm hearing, other opinions may vary.

I just sold one of them and actually have 2 more of them for sale, if anyone is interested..$65 firm shipped to the US.

From my experience, I was initially worried about which slug to use, but after hearing them side by side, they sounded the same to me. Note, both hybrids had the A5 pup, so it was a bit different from Jeff5's experience(one had a ceramic, one had an A5). I also remember Bach2rock mentioning he never noticed a difference unless the pickup mount was slanted like they had 'em in those '80s guitars.

It's been a while since I really used my hybrids(got another guitar) but what I noticed is it had the mids of the JB but the tight bottom end of the custom..I dig/dug it.

did it take any time for the JB/C hybrid to 'settle in' to it's tone when you made it?


as for the slanted rings on the 80s shredders, use some of the foam out of the box the pickup came in to make a little 'pad' beneath the pickup when you install it (well, not 'you', but whoever might have that problem). it'll help keep it level.

Hmm...I can't remember if it "settled in". I want to say I began to like it more and more after I modded them, but I can't say if it was my ears getting used to it or the mag settling in. All I know is I liked the bottom end and clarity it brought to the guitar. *shrug*

I actually do... But it's in a PRS SE and I don't know of another pup what would be a good fit in there..

Yup, yours has an A5. Glad you're liking it! I just like that clarity you get..you can hear all the strings ringing out distinctly and the bottom is strong and tight.

To be honest, it's reminiscent of a Suhr Aldrich to my (tin)ears; the biggest thing I noticed was that the Suhr was a bit tighter and clearer, on the bottom 2 strings..but the Aldrich is REAL tight...reminds me of an Evo I got with a guitar once. This might be remedied by pickup/screw height, but didn't get into it enough to try.
