For the first time in all of my days

I have had an issue with Schaller. I bought another set of S-Locks and the ring didn't come threaded from the factory. Weird issue, but I reached out to them about it, hopefully I can get a replacement.

I hadn't bought Schaller up until like 4-5 years ago.

First I bought a chrome GTM bridge and tailpiece. Cool bridge, but the chrome started flaking off the top of the tailpiece.

Then a black GTM bridge and tailpiece. The plating started flaking off from some of the intonation adjustment screws.

Then some black M6 locking tuners. A few of the nuts and washers ended up scratched and dinged in the finish from just installing them. Just to clarify, I've installed Grovers, Gotohs, and other tuners with the same tools and this never happened to me. They seemed abnormally heavy too.

A chrome Lockmeister trem that I replaced my worn out Ibanez Edge on my RG550. No complaints here, but I didn't have it for long either.

I have now got an STM roller bridge in my Gibson, and so far, this one's good. Maybe one of the posts fit slightly too tight at first, but the more I've used it, the better it's become.

I LOVE the design Schaller hardware has. I'm probably not going to stop buying it if I see something that catches my eye. But two things I would really like for them to improve on:

1. Less use of pot metal.
2. Better (or at least, more consistent) plating.

JME.

You mean the little allen screw? Or are you talking about the inside diameter of the ring not having threads?

Yeah, the whole ring doesn't have threads. Also I don't know when they made this change, but the one I got has a slotted screw instead of allen screws. There's always a chance I guess that I got a fake, because I ordered through Amazon, but the rest of it looks alright.

You're pretty rough with your hardware.

Maybe? I don't think I am. But Gotoh and Grover have held up just fine.

Like I said, I love the design and aesthetics of Schaller hardware. I just wished they'd use better (or more consistent) plating methods.

I remember all of my days like it was yesterday. In fact it was.
20 years more or less with Dunlop dual design never had a problem but i buy the strap part new about every year.

Just hoping to get a replacement. If not it's no biggie, I already have setup for schallers. I'd prefer to put it on a second strap though. One strap for bass, one for guitar

I am sure they will help you out. This is such a strange thing to happen...and I am sure you sent him the pics, too.

Yep, made in Germany. But anyone can accidentally let something slip through the process after a long shift.
Yes, quality control should have caught it, but mistakes happen with every company. The fact that they are going the extra mile to make it right (sending 2 more) tells you about the quality of the company.

Interesting no, incompetent yes.
The 12 year old Vietnamese kids mind prolly went momentarily blank after 17.5hrs manning his CNC machine.

I told them that two feeds a day would make them lose their hunger for the work, and now this . . .
