For those curious about what a 1986 Alnico II Pro humbucker looks like...

Re: For those curious about what a 1986 Alnico II Pro humbucker looks like...

a bit OT, but back then slash used the jcm 900 which is said to have a "cold" or "lifeless" tone as well as not sounding "tubey".

Depends on which one, the one I had surprised the crap out of ALOT of people. I had a Slash sig I got rid of becasue the 2100 MKIII 900 sounded better and I have always thought 800's sound like high mid sterile ass in comparison.

Not sure how this forum feels about bumping old threads. I just came across a set of these.... based on the info in this thread, I'm guessing they are late 80's neck pickups, wound by Maricela.

I'd say early to mid '80s, made by Her Majesty, the undisputed Queen Of All Things Mojo, Maricela Juarez.

FWIW, you've got a set very close, if not identical to the set found in Slash's Derrig, the (in)famous AFD guitar.

Enjoy'em in good health.

Thanks, Lt. Not that I'm chasing Slashtone, but were Slash's pickup non-braided 4 conductor?

Re: For those curious about what a 1986 Alnico II Pro humbucker looks like...

We have up to now only a very rough timeline! In this it should be made after 1983 up to 1987

This are my best guesses:

1. no backlogo, small tag without winder from late 70 up to 1981
2. no backlogo, small tag with winder initial from 1981 to 1983
3. big backlogo without MiA, small tag with winder from at least 1983 to 1987
4. small backlogo with MiA, small tag with winder from 1987 to 2002
5. small backlogo with MiA, large tag with SN and Model from 2002 to ?
6. small backlogo with MiA, large tag with date from ? to now

When did the silkscreen "Seymour Duncan" on the coil come up?

Hi there, I was wondering what period my pu. could be from. Its an APH1N with a small logo, MIA, no winder, no date no serial number, it just says APH1N on a printed label.
Thanks for any info.
Chris.

Re: For those curious about what a 1986 Alnico II Pro humbucker looks like...

In 1996 SD purchased a labelprinter and changed from rubber prints to the sleekier printed labels. So i say your pickup was made between 1996 and 2001. Someone here in the forum said that the winder initial are only missing on pickups from OEM guitars. Otherwise there must a date from which on the winder initial was dropped on the labelprinted tags.

My improved and updated timeline:

1. no backlogo, long tag with full model model name: 1976 to late 70ies
2. no backlogo, small tag without winder initial from late 70 up to ?
3. no backlogo, small tag with winder initial from ? to 1983
4. big backlogo without MiA, small tag with winder initial from at least 1983 to 1988
5. small backlogo with MiA, small tag with rubber stamped winder initial from 1988 to 1996 (1989 the silkscreened logo on the bobbin started, but not on 59s except on OEMs)
6. small backlogo with MiA, narrower labelprinted tag with winder (but L for Leesona on 59s??) from 1996 to 2001?.
7. small backlogo with MiA, narrower labelprinted tag without winder from ? to 2001.
8. small backlogo with MiA, large tag with needle printed SN and Model from 2002 to ?
9. small backlogo with MiA, large tag with date from ? to ?

Thanks a lot, thats what I was guessing. And you're right about the OEM pups, on top mine says 'Framus Seymour Duncan'.

Hi There, I just came across an APH1BG, do you guys think this is legit?
The baseplate looks kind of clean and newish to me, and the sticker looks like anyone could have put it there?
Thanks for any help!! Stay safe out there.
