Lately, there have been a few questions about finishing a body with Tru Oil.
Today I got back a tele body from final buffing, after I had dyed it and finished with Tru Oil.
I wanted to point out that you can get a fairly shiny finish using this technique.
This body started as a web special from USACG. It's an alder body with contours. I think it was about $120, since it had some filler. However, it was routed for two 'Trons, which I thought was cool, so I got it.
Actually, that was more than two years ago. After dying and finishing, I gave the body to a friend for final buffing. About six months ago, we had lunch, and he said, "I have some bad news" ....
his truck was robbed, someone broke in, stole almost everything of value. My guitar body happened to be in the truck, wrapped in some towels. They actually took the towels, and thankfully left the body, probably thinking it was just a piece of lumber.
My friend felt badly because the body had some dings afterwards, and he wanted to refinish it. I said, 'No way! People pay good money for dings like that nowadays! Besides, it's too good of a story ... "
hahaha
anyway, here are a couple of pics .. I have a couple of necks, one is a baritone, and I'm still not sure how this will turn out, so we'll see:
and some additional pics here:
