For those interested in pics of Tru Oil finish

Lately, there have been a few questions about finishing a body with Tru Oil.
Today I got back a tele body from final buffing, after I had dyed it and finished with Tru Oil.
I wanted to point out that you can get a fairly shiny finish using this technique.

This body started as a web special from USACG. It's an alder body with contours. I think it was about $120, since it had some filler. However, it was routed for two 'Trons, which I thought was cool, so I got it.

Actually, that was more than two years ago. After dying and finishing, I gave the body to a friend for final buffing. About six months ago, we had lunch, and he said, "I have some bad news" ....
his truck was robbed, someone broke in, stole almost everything of value. My guitar body happened to be in the truck, wrapped in some towels. They actually took the towels, and thankfully left the body, probably thinking it was just a piece of lumber.

My friend felt badly because the body had some dings afterwards, and he wanted to refinish it. I said, 'No way! People pay good money for dings like that nowadays! Besides, it's too good of a story ... " :D hahaha

anyway, here are a couple of pics .. I have a couple of necks, one is a baritone, and I'm still not sure how this will turn out, so we'll see:

DUDE!!!

I was thinking the SAME thing just a few days ago...same guard a bridge for a single tron Esquire set up!!!!

Very sexy and cool story to boot!

Re: For those interested in pics of Tru Oil finish

thanks, CF

it's routed for a neck 'Tron, and I have the other pickup, just have to rout the guard

it's a little funny to me that I got the body before the Cabronita came out and those became a hot item ... I just got a good deal on a body and went with it!

actually, I'd like to do one kinda Cabronita style, with a purple metallic finish :)

That sounds nice too!

I got hooked on the idea of a tron in a Tele from Joe Perry several years ago now...I was actually surprised that Fender didn't do it sooner!

I'm actually thinking pretty hard about adding a neck tron to one of my Esquires...just gotta decide which one!

I want to see pics of that one when it's done!

wow thats amazing, i had no idea you could get that much of shine from tru oil! love the idea of the tron pickup in a tele!

Re: For those interested in pics of Tru Oil finish

Wow that's a very nice looking Tele!!! I see I've used far too many coats on mine and not even too thin...but it was the very first time and I've really enjoyed using Tru-oil!!!

Well mine after 10 coats is soo very shiny and I haven't buffed and polished it yet so I have some good hopes for a nice final result ;-)

You know I've realised my coats were not so thin only when I tried to wipe the oil on the body by using a microfibre cloth...it works so damn nicely!!!

Thanks for all your help Mr Curly ;-)

Looks like a fun guitar. By now, you're probably one of USACG's favorite customers!

One thing I'm wondering though is how it handles gain and high volume, because the metal on metal contact in the bridge plate looks like a recipe for screams and howls.....unless there's plastic separating all of it. Let us know if you experience that, once you have a chance to crank it up with an OD pedal.
