For Those Of You That Play Multiple Guitars And Use Straplocks

I don't know about yall, but here's what I do. I use one strap with one set of Dunlop Straploks on it. I prefer Dunlop, but whatever. Anyways, about 5 years or so ago I bought a bunch of just the strap buttons that go in the guitar for about $5 per pop per set for each guitar. That way all I have to do is use the same strap and the guitars are already outfitted for me to just pick one up and push my straplok'd strap in to them. Anyways, I've since bought more guitars since that time and all. I haven't been able to find anymore of the buttons that go in the guitar until the other day. I just thought I'd pass on what I do just for the heck of it I reckon. Also, for those of you that do the same thing and need more of the buttons, here ya go. They got Dunlop and Schaller.:) I gotta order me some more.

Good deal too by the way. At least I think it is.

EDIT: Oh yeah...I love bargains man. I just can't turn them down. I just bought a brand new leather Levy's strap off of Ebay for $18. It's 3" wide and goes to 65" in length. The strap normally goes for $40 on MF and other online retailers. Here's what I got;

It's a killer strap too man. I love it!!

I pretty much do the same thing, only I prefer the Schaller type straplocks......I have a handfull of straps, some get my Les Pauls where I want 'em, some are for Strats, teles, and so on....one won't do it all for me! Using the same straplocks though makes 'em pretty much universal!

Thanks for the link, I'm always trying to buy more buttons without buying the whole kit!

Re: For Those Of You That Play Multiple Guitars And Use Straplocks

...and I just bought a second set of straplocks the other day.....oh well at least it keeps the local store in business.

Still though, just ordered 3 sets to retrofit a couple other guitars. Great find Jolly, seems to be a much better deal than buying new sets of straplocks.

Re: For Those Of You That Play Multiple Guitars And Use Straplocks

I use the plastic Dunlop twist-overs now. I used to use Schallers but I don't want to change all guitars and straps anymore.

Re: For Those Of You That Play Multiple Guitars And Use Straplocks

I use Schaller's on all my guitars. I use to use Dunlop, But I found out the hard way that their tolerance's vary, And they wear out . There are other vendors who sell just the buttons, But I can't think of em' now? Thanks for the link Jolly.:D

Re: For Those Of You That Play Multiple Guitars And Use Straplocks

JUst got a bunch of those today from Allparts. $5 for a pair of Gold and $4 for Chrome. I think Black was $4 too. I got Gold and Chrome sets. Got 10 felt washers for $5 also.

Re: For Those Of You That Play Multiple Guitars And Use Straplocks

Nothing wrong with the Schallers at all. Honestly, I think they're probably better than the Dunlops man. I just kinda dig the Dunlops. They've never given me a problem. Therefore I just stick with what works for me. Anyways, I'm glad I could have helped (or whatever) some of you. It saves money man, and I'm all about that.:)

Re: For Those Of You That Play Multiple Guitars And Use Straplocks

I have a strap & straplocks for each guitar, so I can grab a case & go to a gig, & not have sit playing in a chair all night in case the strap was somewhere else. I keep extra strings, picks, and a string winder with each guitar too, for the same reason.

I saw Dickie Betts play a benefit in Sarasota several years ago; had his '59 Les Paul brought by security guards in a limo. Didn't have a strap with it, so he borrowed one. In the middle of a song, the strap slipped off the rear strap pin, and the guitar almost hit the ground. Dickie turned white as a ghost. There, a lesson about keeping straps with guitars, and to use some kind of strap lock.

Re: For Those Of You That Play Multiple Guitars And Use Straplocks

Thanks for the link, Jolly, I do the same thing! I've been needing some schaller buttons, dam sure don't want to spend the $20 for the whole shebang, tho.

Glad I could halp ya out bro.:)

Re: For Those Of You That Play Multiple Guitars And Use Straplocks

Its certainly a shame that the right strap length for a LP doesn't match up with a Strat or else I'd go that one strap route myself

Then again given the weight of the LP I use a different strap for that anyways (hell with style, I need comfort lol) and the skinny vintage style leather for the strat

Re: For Those Of You That Play Multiple Guitars And Use Straplocks

I always use DiMarzio Cliplock straps on my superstrat, strats etc. But on my Les Paul I have this wide leather strap with metal studs on it. :)

Re: For Those Of You That Play Multiple Guitars And Use Straplocks

Thanks Jolly I was wondering where to get the buttons too.

Yeah,I turned a guy in town onto the Allparts pieces,he usually keep a few in stock now!!!
Much better than shelling out $15+ a pop,I've got a box full of the strap pieces,too...

Re: For Those Of You That Play Multiple Guitars And Use Straplocks

I use the Schallers on some guitars, I use the stock buttons on others and I use rubber washers on some too. I keep a Strap on each guitar. I like to wear them at different settings, so its easier to just keep a strap on the guitars

Re: For Those Of You That Play Multiple Guitars And Use Straplocks

I use these things instead:

They go for $2 each here, I don't know why they sell for $4 in the USA.

Re: For Those Of You That Play Multiple Guitars And Use Straplocks

I just wanted to add that wymoreguitars (a member here) has the schaller buttons, I got a set from him myself.

Re: For Those Of You That Play Multiple Guitars And Use Straplocks

Have any of you yet figured out how people use a dual guitar strap (or "harness" some people call it)?

I thought for sure I could just use two straps with strap locks systems on both guitars, but I wasn't for sure.

Re: For Those Of You That Play Multiple Guitars And Use Straplocks

I bought a buncha guitars that came from the factory with the Dunlop strplock strap knobs, so I had to locate the part that goes on the strap. People sell them now and then on E Bay.

I can't just have one strap for a bunch of guitars. That's a sure fire recipe for showing up at a rehearsal or gig with no strap for my guitar. It'll be in the case for some other guitar that I didn't bring.:smack:
