For Van Halen Nuts

Re: For Van Halen Nuts

That's no Peavey he's playing. That's the new Wolfgang prototype. The lower horn is totally different from the Peavey, as is the headstock.

Cool stuff, thanks for sharing. That was a cool read.

From what maufacturer, Fender?

Yes, it was a good read. I enjoyed it...

Re: For Van Halen Nuts

Most likely, yes, Fender. I can't say for certain but last I knew that's who he was working with on it.

Interesting. See, when he left EBMM and went to Peavey, he could only take the EVH name from EBMM. They retained all other design facets; which is why we now have the Axis. When he left Peavey, he took about everything. That's why we now have the HP Signature; which replaced the Wolfgang, instead of a renamed Wolfgang and why Fender is now going to reproduce the Wolfgang.

If I am wrong, please correct me; but that's how I see it.

Re: For Van Halen Nuts

Nope, you're right, Butch. Except one thing, the Axis was already designed and ready when Eddie went to EB and slapped his name on it. The only thing he finalized the decision on was the pickups.

Ahhhh, but here's another tidbit. before EVH came to EBMM, and when Albert Lee was playing a modded silhouette, Dudley Gimpel (EBMM's chief engineer) came to one of Sterling's Christmas parties with a new guitar prototype. Albert Lee, who was looking for a sig model, took one look and was floored by it. It was a prototype of the EBMM Albert Lee model. It was to be called the "Axis". I have a couple of DVD's where AL is using one of the originals. They say "Axis" on the headstock...

Sorry for the hijack...

Haha, that's hilarious actually. The name had to wait through 2 sig models before getting used.

Re: For Van Halen Nuts

Another thing to note. Alan Fitzgerald, Night Ranger's keyboardist played keys during the Balance tour. I wonder if he'll play during this one. Since it's classic VH, there won't be a lot; just a bit for 1994 like "Jump".

Re: For Van Halen Nuts

"I'll Wait" and "And The Cradle Will Rock" have keys too. It'll be interesting if Eddie decides to mash on the keys for ATCWR. My guess is that the keys will be tracked like they've done before.

This is interesting. I remember reading an old Guitar World years ago with an EVH interview regarding his new EB/MM guitar and he claimed to have designed the shape- which was a cross between a Les Paul and a Telecaster.

I wouldn't be suprised if he lied- since I've read elsewhere that EBMM had the design already before he came. I have one, I love the design- I can't say the same for the boring, almost ugly Peavey Wolfgang

Re: For Van Halen Nuts

i wonder what axes he will use for Little Guitars and Secerets... pull out the old LP mini's and Kramer doubles or something new?

Re: For Van Halen Nuts

Fender would have been wiser to associate EVH with the Charvel brand considering the "frankinstrat" roots. Thus giving Charvel a much needed boost.

Re: For Van Halen Nuts

AHHHHHHHHH I cant see the pic. I wana see bad. Whats wrong with it. Page not found!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Re: For Van Halen Nuts

They were up there earlier today cause I looked at 'em. Eddie was wearing those same white pants from the '81 Oakland concert video that the "Unchained" video came from. Minus the striped socks though. ;) LOL

Re: For Van Halen Nuts

Eddie loooked pretty good in those pics. Guitar looked fuggly, and fwiw I think the Peavey looked alot nicer than the MM (actually *ANYTHING* looks better than a MM guitar, LOL) , but to each their own.

DLR looked good too..they looked like they were having fun.

who's that chunk playing bass? (aint MA)
