Forget the polls for a moment ... just post what YOU want in a custom shop pickup!

Re: Forget the polls for a moment ... just post what YOU want in a custom shop pickup

JB Jr sounds like a great idea.

Or a way to coax mad twang out of a bridge humbucker.

I would love something voiced like a Pearly Gates with more output, and a little more bass for the bridge position. Basically a custom custom with more bass. I'd be willing to try A8 with rails though.

The Mean 90's in my schecter w/ more strat character (that 'quack' everyone talks about) in the middle position. A rhythm sound between Mississippi Queen and Pete Townshends tone at live at leeds, a solo tone like EC's second solo in crossroads w/ that Hendrix whining sound that he got from bent notes (I can't really describe it better than that), and cleans like SRV's little wing or Lenny. Ideally, I would have a 3 p-90 setup with a strat style guitar and a bass roll off knob like Reverend makes. I really like the versatility that the bass roll off adds to a guitar.

edit: Oh yeah, and an alternate clean-on-the-edge-of-breakup sound with more punch than muhammad ali in his prime

I like the idea of having a special production pup. I don't really need a special pickup. What I have in the Texas Hots is way more pickup than I'll probably ever need.

I do like Zhangliqun's suggestion for a crystal clear neck pup for strat. I also like the idea of a tapped A2 bridge for strat.

If I were to get a HB I would want the ultimate pup for a single HB super strat. But, the '78 EVH may be that pickup.

Mostly, I just like the idea of having special edition pickup.

I vote for a JB lite. (A JB with tighter lowend, less harsh, with less output but, it still has that singing quality a JB is known for).

The most useful pickup to me at the moment would be a fatter sounding Strat bridge that sounds like a Tele but still keeps the bridge/middle twangy "Sultans of Swing/Layla" tone when in that position.

Try Pearly Gates A8!

What do I want in a custom shop order? Put the Pearly Gates mini-humbucker for Strat into mainstream production. I think it would be cool to have a medium output Alnico II mini-humbucker. As is, there are far too few (in my opinion) Alnico II pickups for strat, much less mini humbuckers.

A Phat Cat with no hum. I guess thats impossible but it would be very cool.

Re: Forget the polls for a moment ... just post what YOU want in a custom shop pickup

My dream pickup? A strat pickup that nails all the Hendrix tones based on where you pick :D

Re: Forget the polls for a moment ... just post what YOU want in a custom shop pickup

JB with the same output but with tighter bass and warmer low mids

Re: Forget the polls for a moment ... just post what YOU want in a custom shop pickup

What I would like in a bridge humbucker is a tapped/splittable pickup; like I said in the poll. Untapped it would be basically a Custom Custom. Tapped, it would be an Alnico II Pro. When you split it untapped it would be a JD. Tapped Split, it would be an APTL-1. That pickup would do so much that Seymour would be partnered with Line 6 making the first "Modeling Pickup".

Seriously, that tapped humbucker thing is what I would like.

Now THAT is a fantastic idea!!!

Something with output similar to the JB, possibly a little more.

Tight low end, but not lacking - similar low end and response to the EMG 85.

Warm, responsive midrange, while still remaining that low end tightness.

A sparkly top end that doesn't get harsh or brittle.

Seriously - the JB with a tighter low end and moving that high-mid spike down in the spectrum, or removing it all together, would probably be perfect.
