Forum Jam!

Re: Forum Jam!

Okay, I finally got it done! Here's what I did:

I knew that I wanted the intro to have layered Ebow guitars. I ended up using 3 guitar tracks, and I tracked it after playing through the song a few times. For the strummed part, the Ebow guitars continue, and provide their own melody. The lead guitar was literally slapped on after running through the song twice. The harmony guitar was added just to thicken it up a bit.

Re: Forum Jam!

thanks man!

there were some mess ups, but i didn't care. i probably wouldn't be able to remember those notes anyways :D

Re: Forum Jam!

nice solo lee!
very melodic, and i can start to understand where you coming at now as far as what your playing is. i was hoping for some bruatl shred from you but :smack:

:D

Re: Forum Jam!

im sorry to say this man, but TO i didn't like yours very much :(

tone was good but i didn't liek how the ebow was in there. the ebow kinda sounded like background noise :smack:

but you definitely got some Vai in your blood :D

Re: Forum Jam!

Nuntius, I gotta say, your solo is THE BEST!!! I dig the tone and it seems to fit nicely, but that's not surprising coming from you :13: :cool3:

Re: Forum Jam!

I must admit I didn't think was one of TO's better efforts either. I think what I didn't like was that the backing track was open and 'airy' but TO completely drowned it out.

Neither was I too keen on Nuntius's effort. For me the tone was far too heavy for an acoustic piece and he never really gave his solo and identity, he introduced a theme and then forgot all about it. I like to see a theme established and referred to as the piece goes on.

I'm not saying either were 'bad' but just what it is that would stop me from listening to them in the future.

And Moom. Just too many string bends for my likes. Plus, if you are going to go for that type of effect the bends have to be spot on - and a couple of them were rather sloppy.

(I'm not in an bad mood - honest).

Re: Forum Jam!

lol fair enough lee.

its a piece i recorded months ago, i put up the track because you said you wanted it.

i've got a lot better in the past few months so its not really that good a measure of what i can do now, but i do admit i lost where i was going about where that pinch harmonic comes in.

i thought the tone fit ok but that i suppose is taste

i'll listen to MooM and TO's versions when i get home :)

Yeah, this was a tough one for me ... It's a fragile piece, and it doesn't take much to get overcrowded. The backing track itself is busy & covers a lot of sonic ground. I try to keep my total time to about an hour for each clip, so my emotional investment isn't that great.

I think the Ebow compliments the track (of course, or I would never have tracked it), but it definitely takes the backing track ceases to make it so 'airy'.

Re: Forum Jam!

TO, your track took me off guard. It's well executed as always, but your choice of a melody on the dissonnant side is surprising and kind of take the backtrack in a complete different direction. This at least shows that you can consider a backtrack from a totally different angle.

Let's just say that most of these tracks of ours will not make history, this was a hard one and at least we gave a shot at it :)

Re: Forum Jam!

Yeah, the difficulty with this particular track was you could either just reinforce the notes, or go against 'em. I chose "against" with a vengence! lol

Nuntius did the best job, but it's his piece, so I would expect no less! :D

Re: Forum Jam!

Yeah, I think he had the vibe for it from the start. But these tracks are cool challenges anyway. It makes us explore things we'd never try otherwise.

the reason i do solo's over acoustic tracks is that they are just "bare bones" of tracks, you have to try and make something out of nothing with your lead playing otherwise the track will be boring

I'm gonna post another acoustic jam tonight but im not sure if i should, its very dark and i dont think anyone will like it. its also all picking so it sounds quite frantic as it is... it'll be worth a shot though

Re: Forum Jam!

One day when I have time, I'll make a decent high energy track that we can solo over that's closer to my style of music ... ie, Priest meets Maiden.

Re: Forum Jam!

i'll look forward to that:)

i might try and make my own if i get time, but it'd have to be off those awful keyboard drums :laugh2:

Re: Forum Jam!

Hmm I think they pretty much where very good clips!
Liked Sly's alot, good earthy vibe, Lee was the melodymaker again, Nuntius had some fat things going on:D TO well must be my fondness for unusual sounds I really liked yours, Moom was moody again:D Liked that.
