Forum pickup?

Sorry but I had to take a leave of absence to prepare for and pull off a benefit for someone else. What's the status on the pickup? I see the sticky is gone.

Re: Forum pickup?

All that drama only to end up with a neck version of an existing bridge pickup. Astonishing when you think about it.

What do you mean with "only"?

That was the original idea, a neck version of said p'up, so it can be offered as a matched set.

That's what got voted. Out of desperation for some? Maybe. But it got voted anyway and with about 70% of the votes, IIRC.

So, you like it or not, Vox Populi, Vox Dei. So there! ;)

there is usually a lot of drama with these things and frequently only get one pup out of it. brobucker and crazy8 for example. its a forum pickup, not a forum set. the only set i can recall was the strabro90 and that it a very unique pup

Re: Forum pickup?

StraBro90 rules.

Still, I am disappointing that we went through 2 rounds of this (me in April 2014, then the recent one) and how it was managed on the other side. I understand there were business and management changes. But I have my own changes in my life to manage and my investment of personal energy did not feel well treated on the other side.

I think that a decent 3+3 pickup in humbucker format will be a hit, always have.

Re: Forum pickup?

I think the StraBro 90 would be a great production pickup marketed for bridges, as a substitute for a full size humbucker. IMO, it does the Little '59 thing better than a Little '59. I'd be interested in a lower wound StraBro 90 for the neck and middle, it's a bit dark as it is. I think that half-a-humbucker bobbin format has unmet potential, although I had to widen the holes in the pick guard to get them in.

Re: Forum pickup?

id would be nice if everything was a production pup but thats not realistic. i dont find the strabro90 dark in the tapped position at all and in the full output position it is darker but a p90 typically isnt overly bright in the neck and the full output sounds great with gain. the wonderful thing about a custom shop pup is they can make it anyway you want!

Re: Forum pickup?

I don't have a real P-90, but I have the P-Rails, the StraBro90 is significantly darker than that. I'd put it's resonant peak at below 4 kHz. The tapped sound is rather weak, as if a Strat coil had been wound to under 5K ohms, but I'm able to get a decent in-between with a spin-a-tap.

The not so wonderful thing about the custom shop is 1) filling out a detailed form, 2) waiting, 3) sometimes poor communication and 4) lower QC that you get with production runs. My StraBro 90's all came with unthreaded legs.

Re: Forum pickup?

oops, was wrong about the fugly. again, that was something very unique so made sense they did a set. this is just a neck pup for an already existing pup
