found a great tech

My amp was making a hum that wasn't affected by volume or channel,

I was refered to this tech at Dakota Entertainment in SD, His name is Monte.

I shipped the head portion of my amp to him and within a few days he had the problem diagnosed, I gave him the OK for the repair.

exactly a week later I get an email, "your amp is done, boxed ready to be shipped"

it came out perfect, total bill

Labor $60
Shipping $30
Tube $15

Amp sounds like new, I couldn't be happier,

There's a really good amp tech that's about an hour and half north of me and I'm too dam lazy to make the drive. He's also a forum member here.

no sir, I had already tried 3 different tubes, it was more than that..

that was funny tho lol

even with that tube removed the amp had a bad hum..

Don't think I've ever shipped an amp for repairs, but cool you got fixed up.

I have. Doug Hoffman when he was doing repairs.

I've learned how to do basic maintenance, but for something major I would consider sending it out.

That is a reasonable price, all considered. How old is the amp? Did he also check for future trouble spots (like power supply caps) if the amp is old?

Amps only humm because they don't know the words. Teach them some lyrics and then they'll sing instead of humm.

There's a world class tech about the same distance south of you, too. His name is Kevin Silva and he's the go-to guy for every gigging guitarist I know, as well as numerous national acts.
