Found It's Sister (Or Brother)...

My 1998 Fender American Standard Stratocaster guitar has a sibling that is for sale on the internet. This guitar has the same body colour and rosewood fret board. Now I know the official name of the body colour which is called "Dark Purple Metallic".

The serial numbers on this and my guitar are so very close. The guitar listed says N8343660...mine says N8343615. What are the odds of finding another guitar where they were produced so close apart?!

Here's your chance to own an excellent guitar made in an excellent year.;)

Awesome finish. I love having a variety of Fender style guitars, but that makes me want to sell the Tele and Jag :)

Re: Found It's Sister (Or Brother)...

It's actually called Midnight Wine. I had a USA Strat in the same color from 1994. Probably my favorite color Fender had in the 90's.

I'm in a band where the other guitarist has a 1994 Fender Strat (40th anniversary) almost the same colour as mine but slightly a bit more reddish. I like the name Midnight Wine.;)

Re: Found It's Sister (Or Brother)...

I had a midnight wine MIM strat and I think they look so good. Looks almost black in some lighting, but you get that eye catching sparkly red purple thing a lot in other lighting.
And yeah that's cool to find such a close serial!

Re: Found It's Sister (Or Brother)...

Mine had maple fingerboard. I forget how many pickup changes I put in that thing. The best ones were DiMarzio Air Zone / PAF combo and the Fender SCN Noiseless wired up Eric Johnson style w/ 500K volume, 250K tones, .1uf tone cap. The swimming pool route was nice when it came to changes and combinations.

I had 2 standard strats with that color. Built them up and sold them, Both were very fun projects.

I have a MIM in midnight wine too. I put a black guard on it though.

Re: Found It's Sister (Or Brother)...

I tried a black guard on mine too but didn't like it. Other than the white and even parchment, vintage pearl (see Warmoth for it) looks fantastic on this color.

Re: Found It's Sister (Or Brother)...

I like the zebra bridge pu. makes it look like a single from a distance, but gives the hb versatility. cool. I also like that color.

Thank you, sir
I went back and forth about getting the HSS version. Ultimately, since I’m basically a rock player it made more sense. Plus I have it wired for automatic coil split in position 2. So all of the strat tones are still there.

Now that looks nice...you're giving me ideas since I have a swimming pool route in my guitar.;)

I also removed one tone control and have it as a master volume and master tone.
I have never liked the placement of the volume knob....I’m constantly turning it down with my right hand accidentally.

Re: Found It's Sister (Or Brother)...

I have one too... from 1999 or 2000 IIRC... lefty.

It's my mutt guitar now. Warmoth neck, Callaham Fender Am Std trem pieces.

Just slapped my old 80s JBJ in it.
