Re: Found this looking for a practice amp (5W tube amp content)

I played one of these Orange Tiny Terror amps the other days and was VERY impressed, I may be picking one up soon. It gives you a great Marshall tone- think old Black Sabbath when you saw Iommi using Orange amps. You just have to go out and play it and you'll want one.

Re: Found this looking for a practice amp (5W tube amp content)

Wow thats a great idea...I wonder why I had never thought that companies had made amps like this before!

My band and I keep all of our gear at our rehearsal studio room that we pay for monthly, and its a decent distance away so if I want to play I'm not gonna go all the way over there to play. And while I love playing acoustic guitar, there are times when I want to play electric. I've always wanted to save up enough cash to buy a nice tube combo but even those are fairly expensive especially considering my tight budget, but a small tube amp like this is perfect!

Are there any other companies or any other amps like this?

Re: Found this looking for a practice amp (5W tube amp content)

The Blackheart looks like an Epi Valve Jr with some mods done to it, and the cab looks like the matching VJr cab. Hmmm.

Re: Found this looking for a practice amp (5W tube amp content)

Still . . . this thing looks interesting. How bad can it be for a true tube amp? I wonder if GC will carry this also? (So I can hear it.)

Edit: Better pic here.

Yeah it totally looks like a modded Valve Jr. The price is definitely right...if somebody bought my Bassman, I would just get one of these to fill the void.

EDIT: The price is THE SAME as the Valve Jr. halfstack set? Epiphone's got some maaajor competition. I might just have to get one for the hell of it, so i can dedicate my Bassman for bass and still have a good guitar amp. Not like I'll need any full-blast giggable amps any time soon...

Yeah thats what I was thinking (although I already have the valve jr head)
Its not really clear if that price is for the head or the stack (the headline mentions both) I would be willing to bet it is for the head only. BUT, if that price is for the halfstack, it would be the best deal on any amp out there.

Re: Found this looking for a practice amp (5W tube amp content)

The price is definitely for both units. Look at the pic I linked to. Its a different dealer than MF. They show the stack for $249.99.

Re: Found this looking for a practice amp (5W tube amp content)

The only question i have about this amp is the whole pentode / triode thing. What exactly does that do?

Switches between 5 elements or 3 elements of the power tubes... see those on Boogies, Rivera & some others too. You get a little less volume in triode and it affects the overall response & feel too. On my Rivera moving to triode takes it from 55 watts to about 40-45... or so they say! Not enough to make a big difference there, but the feel & tone IS different.
